E-skip along with a local off, opening it up! 6/03/14

Had a few new logs today and some of them had to do with KDBL 92.9, my local country station, off the air for about two hours today! E-skip also happened today.

9:28AM - 95.5 KLOS Los Angeles, CA; brief Es spike with promo for Elton John concert, "Saturday October 4th at the Staples Center" in Los Angeles. NEW #218, 63KW, 864 miles. This was on an unattended recording while I was at work.

3:00PM - 94.1 KRDE San Carlos, AZ; fair with partial ID, "San Carlos-Phoenix" into Fox News. NEW #219, 4.7KW, 1060 miles - my first ever Es on 94.1! With no KMPS in the way it is a blessing.
Also heard was relog 88.7 KNAU Flagstaff, AZ at 910 miles, incredibly strong! Marketplace talk show promo. Matched the programming schedule for 3:00PM their time.

KDBL 92.9 went off the air around 3:30. Went out for a session and got these:
92.9 - KRXF Bend, OR; ID around 1545, "92.9 FM, Playing the Music You Like" into modern rock/AAAish music. Not e-skip, so this is the only good match for this station. NEW #220, 100KW, 178 miles.
92.9 - KISM Bellingham, WA; 1555 PT with Beatles "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" which matched the playlist. NEW #221, 50KW, 178 miles again, this time to the NW!
92.9 - A RARITY I MAY NEVER HEAR AGAIN! KAFF Flagstaff, AZ, Kip Moore "Beer Money" fading up at 1559 PT (E-skip). Matched playlist. NEW #222, 100KW, 910 miles! Since KDBL is non-nullable this station might never be heard again in my Yakima DX career.

TVFM Skip Log, I am "Yakima CN96" on there. When I am posting red, and it says "YAKIMA CN96" and not a Global Tuners remote (sometimes I log from the San Antonio or Nova Scotia receivers on Global Tuners), that means I have skip going. http://dxworld.com/tvfmlog.html
Also, http://www.dxmaps.com/SPOTS/map.php?Lan=E&Frec=50&ML=M&Map=NA&DXC=N&HF=N&GL=S - when there is a lot of "red" paths from CA to somewhere on 6 meters (50 mhz), and it is getting intense, check the FM. A good indicator of skip.

Nice catches, especially with KLOS. I almost grew up with that station, as well as KMET--this was in the 1970s.

I guess I didn't realize FM could skip so far. I've known for decades AM can skip for thousands of miles; when I lived in Hawaii in the first half of the '80s, I used to enjoy DX'ing stations on the Mainland.

Having locals off can really improve an E-skip opening. I have three locals that are currently off (92.3, 99.3, and 101.5) and I received stations on all of them during the last Es opening I had in Michigan on 5/25

Interesting.

What were some of the regulars and what were some exceptional long distance catches?

I know from what others say who've been there that some of the California 50 kw AM stations such as KFI, KNX, and KNBR can be heard at night.

But what about some of the others that are 5 kw. Did you ever hear old 610 KFRC?

Sorry to derail this thread, but what happened to the "What do you think you could get if you were..." thread? I can't find it and I've got a couple frequencies to add.
