103.7FM New Clear Channel Translator

EMF's K279AQ Mascoutah, IL at 103.7FM just signed on from the St Louis master antenna site; 250 watts at 669'; with good coverage of the inner ring suburbs. The translator is relaying KLOU HD-2 which is currently stunting with a bunch of different "Man" songs. The new station apparently will be called Louie 103.7; a website has already been registered. Guessing some kind of an Adult Hits type format to flank KLOU against The Arch, but have heard no official word.

Agreed. I used to very reliably receive WDBR in Springfield, IL here in the St Louis burbs...now its gone. I've lost 3-4 stations I used to be able to get reliably due to translators. Now we have one that is severely going to mess with a station the company I work for owns right in the heart of its coverage area we are going to have to fight on a first adjacent channel. Not a fan of these things.

Right now they're just playing Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" on a constant loop. But per KLOU's Facebook page, that ends Thursday at 1PM. That's probably when we find out if Louie 103.7 is a reality or not.

Yes new station

1pm today Louie a "man station" begins perhaps for syndicated programming

Looks like the format for the news station is mainstream rock. I wouldn't call it Active Rock because it lacks modern music but I suppose that will be adjusted in time. Signal starts coming in pretty good at the 94/364 split if you are coming in from the west.

Also, note that Radioinsight is reporting a possible change in format at 96.3. Believe it may be another country station but nothing set in stone.

That would be dumb. Leave it to corporate! I guess that 92.3, 93.7, 94.3, 95.7, 98.5, 99.9, 101.7, 106.1, 730, 980, 1190, 1230 and 1540 just aren't enough!

I don't see K-Hits actually flipping. I think Emmis was playing games with Clear Channel. K-Hits does too well to be logical to flip. 97.1 and 105.7 The Point would make more sense, though I can't see either of them going anywhere either.

K Hits does OK ratings wise, however, it has always had the distinction of being the bastard stepchild station in the Emmis pecking order, and they've made a lot of tweaks that have left the station without direction. I've seen Emmis flip other stations with decent ratings, given the fact that its the low man on the totem pole at the Powerhouse, if corporate wants to push a new format into St. Louis, it will be on 96.3. Also, KSHE has been moving their music older again, which makes me think a flip of 96.3 might be immnent with most of those listeners landing back on KSHE, leaving them in a stronger position, and to take 96.3 and go after Clear Channels jugular and try to take out The Bull. I think though if KHits were to cease to exist, more of their listeners would actually end up at KLOU then KSHE.

Well, for me, if I'm going to listen to classic rock, I'm going to KSHE. KHits tends to be very repetitive and really doesn't dig deep at all; Only playing the cream of the crop hence the "hits" part vs "rock" in Classic Hits.

What are the big format holes in St. Louis?

K-she sucks

I've been listing to K-SHE for since 1975. Ever since EMMIS took over the station, it has gone down hill! To much talk from DJ's to many commercials in a row and limited groups and songs! Classic rock or not, their not worth listening to anymore!!! If you want to listen to classic rock, play your own stuff. The Sunday morning Classic won't save their ratings.
I encourage everyone to switch to the new 103.7.Remember when 97.1 the rock came on the Air? It was kicking K-SHE's ASS. What did they do... they bought it and turned it into Talk Radio. LAME !!!!!!!
