Are the lights on at Entercom Greenville?

So, it's been a year since Steve Sinicropi took over as GM for Entercom's Greenville cluster, but has he made a difference?

Looking at their catalog, it doesn't seem like he has. All of the stations in the group seem to be staying the status quo with ratings more or less the same - up and down each quarter, but generally not much different.

The only thing that was "visable" was the name changes of The Planet to "Rocks" instead of New Rock and Rock 101 to "Classic Rock 101.1". I don't think those name changes did much of anything to either station's playlists. The Planet, if anything, just regressed to playing a few older songs that people joked about as not being "new rock". The station is still almost certainly Active Rock even if it does report as just Rock now.

B93.7 still has its ebbs and flows from more rhythmic leaning to more adult/pop-rock leaning with no clear direction overall. Magic, I believe, may have seen the most change with some imaging and a slightly freshened up playlist, but nothing to shout about.

With none of these stations being "power houses" by any means in the GSP market, you would think Sinicropi would have been making some bigger moves to try to change that. Any thoughts on why that hasn't occurred?

I, for one, had thought his time at Cox would have given him an edge on what Entercom would need to jump start the cluster. The former Cox stations, now under Summit, have had fairly rocky road since he left so I think the void left there has had a negative effect.

I didn't really wanna be first-up, but ehhhh! I totally agree with awp69,....and I am as puzzled, as anyone. Many in the market told me,...just watch this, Scooter....He will scatter bodies, and iron-out all of the sluggishness that Entercom has developed over the last 5-to-10 years. However,....Nothing!
awp69's outline is good enough.....I agree! Anyone else?

Well,...in regards to Entercom Grv, I'll weigh-in here. Again, the new GM, reportedly, has the smarts to fix it all. For myself, as an oglin' onlooker, I see neither the right moves, nor the sense of urgency. Putting a Syndi-act on in the Morning, just smacks Quick & Cheap,....and odds are the GM didn't fill the slot, some suit did!
.....and again I say,.....until you get/hire someone with the smarts(knows how)to overhaul that Awww-ful playlist,....Magic is in....PARK!

Well,...user name...2-initial,...dj, so we will assume that you are in the biz, and SC, paying trib to your state of residence. Proclaiming that playlist "great-clean" points directly college attendee, that you have a confusion between anatomy, and archaeology.......you don't know your ass, from a hole in the ground!
That Awww-ful playlist on WSPA-FM....will not fix what is broken. They can't make serious money, until they are a "Player",....with Ratings!
You have to hire someone.....that knows how!!

Well,....(southern prefix),....I said, well,....let's see if we(all) can whittle some truth away from this grapevine of guesses. awp69 started this topic, and peggged GM, Steve S., as the one calling the shots, and I agree. I agree on the basis that Entercom had made it known...that they were looking to hire someone with the Swagger, Piss & vinegar...to make decisions, get things done,...with a Lid on it! Now, collectively, we were all wondering....what's taking so damn long?

The above post has the saltydog stating that all the programming related are made by...."The President of Programming". Oh,...now here's the little Pencilneck that I wanna spend five in the Octagon with! So, is this Desk Pilot the one responsible for the worthless AC that they are transmitting or is it....is it the GM?

Waaaah, waaaah, waaaah. Big bad wadio station don't pway what widdle Scooter wikes, so Scooter gonna hold his bweath till he turns bwue, waaah, waaaah, waaaah...

So, is this Desk Pilot the one responsible for the worthless AC that they are transmitting or is it....is it the GM?

Depends on what you want done. The GM decides if the format is worth keeping, and the programming people carry out the programming. So the answer to your question is BOTH. The GM isn't going to be making music decisions. Not his job.

Well,...first-off we all would(should we?)like to thank JeffM for one of the worse Elmer Fudd impressions on record....Just Awww-ful!......annnnnd since he has no idea , regarding the question at hand....the subject of this Topic,........Here comes TheBigA to the clear it all up for us. Personally, I am Shickled Titless!

So, ya'll the GM states that we are doing AC, and returns to his office. Now, it is all up to "The Programming People"......a committee of Pencilnecks, that are too afraid to say Boo....to a Goose! Now, if you where Steve S., and the higher suits were asking you to.....Show Me The Money....do you really feel that he's just gonna sit still, and loose his job?? Until that playlist is overhauled by someone that truly knows how,.....you have status quo, in ster--reee-oooooooooooo!

Maybe someone of the younger female persuasion loves that playlist. Maybe.

But maybe, since it's his job to make the money with what's on the air, he probably has already thought about it. Maybe.

I find JeffM's style of writing and yours equally mature and relatable.

I don't know exactly how much influence Sinicropi has over programming decisions but I'm sure David Field hired and promoted Paxton to do more than rubber stamp GM decisions. I don't have access to ratings, but I can tell from listening that a lot has gone into the ESPN launch, and that wasn't even mentioned. There are now two local shows and the station broadcasts on two AM stations and two FM repeaters. That's new since Sinicropi took over.

.

Mine was at least intended to be humorous. In Scooty's case, that's the best he can manage. Incidentally, f.y.i., the character I was trying to summon up was not Mr. Fudd, but rather Red Skelton's "Mean Widdle Kid," a spoiled snot who tries to bully everyone around him and whines when he can't have everything "his way."

Like me....or not,....I couldn't (that's could not) care less! For me,...I know what successful radio is......I have done it. That's why I am Debt Free, and the end results of my hard work in the biz, can be found in three different banks. As for the collective readers, and/or recent posters, do you not feel that there is a method behind my madness? The truth is: WSPA-FM is not billing the monthly revenue that it could. Without decent ratings there is no "Serious" Money. It's good that he hired Sherie, but if she's has to play the same daily Horse Manure, then why bother? You can't (that's can not) get decent ratings, until you overhaul that playlist.
Take a minute,....and ponder. The Status Quo, regardless to what some of you Think-?-Typers, have to say.......It Ain't Workin"!

That's nice. I've done it too. Done. Past tense. I won't bore you with an unverifiable boast about my financial success.

I'm history and I know it. Washed up. I'm a radio has been. I can imagine nothing easier than allowing myself to continually harp on the failures of those people still in the battle day after day. I could, but I won't. There are too many doing it already. If I had the answers I would still be working in radio. Hell, I'd invest.

Don't be too sure of yourself. In my experience, the more people think they know, the less they actually know. It took me a long time to recognize the expansiveness of my ignorance. It takes years of study to learn how little you know.

Care to be specific? What are their ratings, since they don't buy the Greenville book, and what are their revenue numbers?

Otherwise, you're just another listener saying "If they just played what I like they'd make more money." They get hundreds of calls like that a day.

No one looks forward to discussion more than I do, but at this point, I don't know which is worse: TheBigA once again painting himself in a corner or Saltydog pointing out to us all....just how damn Stupid he is. TheBigA: WSPA-FM might receive 100-calls per day, but it ain't dissatisfied AC listeners attempting to correct any flubs in the programming.....they don't know anything! SaltyDog: Be hard on yourself, if you deem it necessary, but there ain't no one that Stupid. You might commit suicide on that thing between your ears, and white flag to today's Pencilnecks, but don't expect me to. I know every jot & tittle of the business, and as for those Consultants that have made a mess of things. I am the Hell Hound on their trail!

OK, let's see now. The audience is a bunch of idiots, the management are "pencilnecks," but you know everything. Nice going, Huckleberry Hellhound. Wish I could hire you for what you're worth, then loan out your contract to the competition for what you think you're worth. They'd be off the air in a week, and I could buy CBS.

That didn't answer my question. My question was: What are their ratings and what are their current revenue numbers?
