EXCLUSIVE: Betrayal, jealousy, and bitterness: New book reveals the vicious rivalry between Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters - and how Diane ran newsroom like an imperial court in I, Claudius

* New book, The News Sorority, claims Barbara Walters referred to Diane Sawyer as 'That Girl' and was jealous over her Hollywood husband Mike Nichols
* One former staffer says Diane leaves 'cat paw prints' on people's foreheads
* Another says: 'Whatever it is that drives her, it breaks as many people as it helps'
* The book focuses on the careers of Diane, Katie Couric and CNN's Christiane Amanpour

Diane worked for Tricky Dick. That should tell you all you need to know about her character.

Why would anyone care about a couple of talking heads? Moreover, why would anyone spend the time to chronicle a couple of talking heads?

They were jockeying for air time and plum assignments. This doesn't indicate the character of either, just normal competition in a high profile workplace.

If that's "normal" it does say something about the character of both, and high profile workplaces. Some recent studies have concluded that criminals are not the only psychopaths. Highly successful people, such as CEOs and elected officials, display symptoms of psychopathy. Maybe that applies to network news readers, too.

The network news studio is just one more place where people work and play in corporate America.

Why would it be lacking in battles and feuds any more than the corporate board rooms and the corporate executive suites?

Similar rivalry between Dan Rather and Roger Mudd. Letterman and Leno. Lots of competition in the media. That's part of the job. If you want the kind of gig where no one fights over what you do, pick garbage collection or sewer cleaning.

Sometimes the level of cynicism expressed here can be really depressing. And the level of tolerance for the worst in people. Greed. Dishonesty. Treachery. All treated as "normal," "acceptable" and even as virtues. Really sad. No wonder the media are held in such low regard.

And people are just expected to smile and love it happening to them as well, because, after all, the perpetrators do it to anyone and everyone, besides each other. In the case of the two women named in the thread, they are hardly worth mentioning, because few people pay any attention to them anyway - and that is the saddest part of the story. The earth spins with or without them, and neither is of any consequence to anyone, except to the extent that they destroy the country and the world with their deadly antics.

Such people are not worth getting depressed over.

On the other hand, Rush and Sean and Glenn Blecchh and the Savage Wiener make the world go 'round, right, Silkworm?

So, do you have something to bring to the discussion, or do you just ask questions with cute little insults? The ignore list is a good place for such types who have nothing to debate with, just like the two who are the subject of the thread. Just a matter of letting us know who you are - in a manner of speaking.
