Is PLJ giving up on the Todd Show? - speculation

I havn't listened in about a month. I check my pre recorded audio files for the last two days, and they've completely changed the format of the show.

Where it was ten minute breaks of talks and call ins and charity voice mails.....now each break is no longer than 3 minutes, the call ins seem totally eliminated, and the talking segments are reduced to story blurbs. No more delving in to subjects at length.
It's a totally different show than the way it was From February to April. It's more formatted to how Race Taylor used to do the show when s and T where on vacation. I didn't listen to that, either. I don't care about the music or commercials, I was more interested in the DJ's seemingly interesting lives and all the things that happened to them along the way.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall to see what PLJ has planned if, in fact, the Todd Show does not last. Even Todd doesn't seem sure of it's future,as 'joked' about on air. It's kind of sad to see how EVERYONE has pretty much jumped ship to join scott, even long time listeners who you'd think where team todd, like Dead Guy Brian.

Do you see a complete re structure of PLJ and the morning show in the future? In the past, I would have been upset about this. but now, after reading all the rumors, and stories of how things went down...as well as hearing how the final two years of the show sounded before the switch... it doesn't really bother me all that much.

I've pretty much been team scott since March. Personally, I would love to see PLJ go away from the soccer mom audience, and focus more on dance/party music that is up beat and fast moving. disco and 80s have always been my favorite erra because of it. I have a feeling that if the todd show doesn't last, they will go the Race Taylor route in the morning. Short two minute 'info update' breaks, and then long breaks of the same old boring music, and that isn't going to help them stand out either.

A couple of months ago, I saw an ad on a LIRR train that said "win free money at 7:15 AM, listen to The Todd Show." Usually, giving away free money is the sure sign of a cry for help.

It is? Successful AC stations like WBEB in Philadelphia have been giving away money and trips and other big ticket stuff going back 35 or 40 years.

After the way they ran Scott off the station, it couldn't happen to a better bunch of people.

if the rumors about todd's supposed involvement turn out to be true, absolutely. Once I found that story out, it was the beginning of the end for my 'love' of the Todd Show. and After they started giving that idiot meatballs more to do, I quickly stopped listening altogether.

and it's a shame. I like cooper, Annie and Monk. but even with his own show, Todd still sounded grumpy as hell 50% of the time. a far cry from how he sounded pre cumulus. If it was just a straight out 'scott truly DID retire' situation, I probably wouldn't have been so critical. now i've got the show I loved back and all it took was a move to CBS :)

What do you think the chances are that PLJ will pull a rocky allen? There one day before vacation, gone the next with no ceremony?

There already is a station that plays that kind of music. It is called WKTU and may be heard at 103.5 FM, although not quite as dancy as the now-defunct "Pulse 87".

no idea ktu was still around. for some reason I remember it being bought out and changed a decade ago...must be thinking of another station, or a format change.

November 3, 2014

concrete evidence, or speculation? ;o) considering the short form format of the show now from what it was, it wouldn't surprise me.
although I would give them till at least the end of the year.

could the first of the changes have been made? I noticed Meatballs is no longer listed on the todd show website.
I'm surprised he lasted this long, whether he got fired or quit.

I think the bigger question is when will PLJ change their format and or music mix. Too many NYC and suburban stations are doing similar "hot a/c" & "chr" formats. At the very least PLJ should add more 90's and 2000' and less repetition of currents to sound different then the other stations. I don't have anything positive to say about Todd.

re:todd that's what I'm finding out through all these rumors ;o). It's one of the things that soured me on PLJ as whole..and one reason why I've been PLJ free for four months.

personally, I could care less about what they do. as you mentioned, they play the same boring music as half of the other stations, and now they have no real DJs to stand out amongst the other rabble. all of their 'shows' are nothing but info tainment updates with breaks lasting no more than 2 minutes each. why bother having a station at all if that's all you're going to do? In this day and age, you can find the music ANYWHERE and play what you want when you want.

I'm just reminded of a poster on here who said 'expect changes in november'. When I saw that Meatballs was finally fired, I can't help but wonder if the changes are starting. But it will be interesting to see if they totally blow up PLJ. I'm guessing the Todd SHow will last at least till december, and then vanish in january.

Except that finding music takes time and effort, and most people have neither.

Cumulus is experimenting with several formats around the country now. We'll see which one ends up at 95.5.

Here's the problem, as much as it seems like it's floundering it's still making money, as it targets the sweet spot of the demo, particularly Jersey. Given the field what's going to perform better? It ain't Rock. Ok, so if the money isn't there, how do you cut costs? Become WABC-FM or a clearing for CBS Sports, that's how. Only black sheep would be if they tried a straight up Classic Hits CBS-FM competitor.

who would listen to all political garbage talk? your audience would be older than the politicians that run. I think a dance station would be a good move. As I mentioned before, I didn't even know KTU was still around. I thought it got reformatted long ago.
