Reduction in night power proposed for CKOC 1150 Hamilton

Bell Media has applied to reduce night-time power at CKOC 1150 in Hamilton, Ontario from 50,000 to 20,000 watts (daytime power will remain 50,000 watts).

CKOC currently operates with a 50 kW DA-2 assignment using five tower day and ten tower night patterns. The purpose of this application is to modify its facilities to six tower DA-1 operation with 50 kW day and 20 kW night.

That would be a shame. I'd hate losing it here in Michigan. Granted, I can listen online, but it's a mainstay on my dial.

I think the thinking is "No one is going to go all the way from Michigan to Hamilton and shop..."

Local and national ads are one thing, but international ads are not Bell's focus...at least I don't think so...

No, of course not. I'm just saying that it's a shame to lose yet another useful blowtorch in this region.

Though, frankly, there is some traffic from Michigan coming through Hamilton. It is the primary route from the west into Toronto, and that's not insignificant. Not that it's necessarily something Bell should be relying on, but it's not something to just shrug off, either.

CKOC just isn't what it used to be anyway...

Their "recently played" shows "Made for Lovin' You" by "KISS". That song belongs on a classic rock station, not CKOC. I prefer CKWW for real oldies.
