It's official - NY is Crappy Radio!!

Many readers of this board as well as other boards have long lamented the fact that New York radio is kind of crappy.

Well, now we have official confirmation.

Within the past few weeks, not just one, but 2 radio stations with call letters "BM" have dropped on New York.

With both CBS and Cumulus now in agreement, New York truly is Crappy Radio!

ha ha. Seriously though they are killing the medium. They will complain about the losing listeners due to downloading yet they could change with the times and be a place where downloaders can find new music to download. Additionally, it takes time and money to download songs. Not everyone has that time or money. In those cases radio would be a perfect alternative to find and enjoy new music.

They will die due to their failure to innovate.

Someone please delete this junk thread!

Yes, one must always boot lick and worship the corporate radio masters here.

YYG, how much time on the porcelain throne did you spend coming up with this theory?

creepy radio

Got news for u fortwayne is same ways least it a shame fortwayne radio can't have a real hip-hop station to me newyork have cool radio

The premise, that two letters in two calls has anything to do with the quality of New York radio, is ridiculous. But for various reasons, New York radio is and has been mostly crappy. OK, maybe no crappy. Slick and well done but also largely unimaginative and stodgy. Anything really innovative was done first someplace else and imported. New York's problem is that the suits are too close and paying too much attention.

New York is a prime example of corporate radio micromanagement. It's been a while since we had something unique and compelling, even on HD2. Contrast that with eastern Long Island and 4 unique formats out there: dance, soft AC, real oldies, and AAA. New York radio is so boring to listen to, especially after Amp went jockless. If CBS-FM were managed liked WLNG, with the same talent, it would be much more enjoyable to listen to. My 2 favorite radio markets are Las Vegas and eastern Long Island in that order.

If CBS-FM programmed like WLNG it would have not listeners.

If CBS-FM did the things that made WLNG successful, it would run swap shop, lost dog reports and city council meeting news items. And loads of local news and remotes. And extensive weather whenever a nor'easter rolled in.

WLNG is a very small market community station, and the music is fill between what is really important... the local information and community announcements.

New York's problem is that the suits are too close and paying too much attention.

Let's see.

The Emmis management is in Indianapolis. Clear Channel's program department is decentralized, but much is in San Antonio. SBS is headquartered in Miami, and Univision in LA. Cumulus is in Atlanta. Salem is in Camarillo, CA.

That leaves MultiCultural and CBS as actually having radio program operations headquartered in New York. Oh, yeah, and Bloomberg.

Radio stations are on the air to make money. If the formats noted above were profitable in NYC you can rest assured they would be on the air. The radio dial is a business. If you want a juke box of formats there are tons of other options for that.

Most people posting here seem be just old white guys so you go for these crazy formats.

But the formats that make $$ are the more normal type.

But the industry isn't making money. Management keeps making idiotic decisions that result in loosing money - long and short term. Station managers as a group are an incredible combination of stupidity, babbittry, hubris, arrogance and hypocrisy. They really don't know what they are doing. Even worse, they don't know they don't know what they are doing. What do you expect? Mostly they are salesmen.

And then there are the enablers as represented here who want us to trust them.

Your a complet idiot, I am an old White guy, SO WHAT!!!! you racist moron. Why dont you say old Black guys, or are you such a coward you won't dare speak out. Its liberal creeps like you, that live in lilly white suburbs that love to spout off.

Wish there were no jocks ever.
They just:
- talk over the beginning lyrics of a song
- talk about stuff you dont care about
- they talk about day old stuff or just read the card droning on not really knowing the details of what they are talking about
- alot of times when they come on that means a commercial is next
- theyre just going to get fired & replaced by another talking head eventually anyways
- im listening for the music not the inane talk.
