Wow country number one? I wonder if The beat is taking a hit on the box now?

Maybe more country stations will come in.

Believe it. 93Q has been in the skybox looking down for several periods now. I figure it has as much to do with people's dislike of The Bull-oney at 100.3, as it does any changes made by Cox at KKBQ.

The Beat is certainly getting its foothold in the market. It's already skimmed enough off the top of The Box to vault Sunny back on top, and wasn't that kind of the point when it was launched?

Everything looks pretty status quo in this month's beauty pageant. I see my beloved KCOH has fallen out of the measurement over the last couple of periods. That kind of sucks. Other than that, nothing else really stands out.

Oh..and one more thing. Thank you pjc1961. I hadn't seen them posted on either board in awhile, and am glad to see you posting them again, subjecting them to our praise and/or criticism. Much obliged!

Although conventional wisdom is that the former Arrow listeners all went over to The Eagle after the format flip, I think more than a few went to KKBQ. Their ratings took a nice pop after the beginning of the year.

Much of this is due to the lack of musical format variety for 35+ males, particularly white males. You have either Classic Rock...or Country. Of course this is just a result of the overall state of the music industry, as well as radio's preference for female demographics.

I don't think there is any room for an additional Country station here.

"We" (I'm 36, white male) also have The Buzz, but these days it is a stale jukebox primarily consisting of 1990s & 2000s alternative rock. I like these songs but in moderation. I'm hearing some great active rock songs these days on SXM Octane, Big Dog 106, and KTBZ-HD2. I'm glad to have a rock station but it's time for a music refresh on The Buzz.

Your observation makes one wonder why CC can't take KIOC's playlist and adapt it for Houston.

Why doesn't CBS put classic hits on 100.3? It does quite well (#1) in San Antonio on KONO.

You and me both, Stan. Hell, I'd go for a carbon copy of "Big Dog" in Houston, regardless if it resides at 94-5 or not. One classic rock, one "new" rock station, and that's it here. It's absolutely baffling there isn't an active rocker in a city with this large of a white population.

I don't think I would want a CBS owned classic hits station, though. They are so notorious for the tight playlists, I just think we'd be disappointed in whatever was rolled out on 100-3, if switched to classic hits. I really think that at some point, CBS is going to blow up 100-3, move SportsRadio to it, and then move the national CBS SportsRadio on to 610. I just don't see the national sports feed being allowed to air on a 250 watt daytimer too much longer, with the growth of the network over the last year.

Now, Cox on the other hand? Oh yeah, I'd be all in for a KONO clone here in Houston.

What about WCBS, though? They are really good - seem to have a pretty large playlist. CBS knows how to do the format right. Now, whether they would --- that is another matter.

I think it would be very ironic to have classic hits on a station with the legacy KILT call letters - for those of us who remember the top-40 McLendon days, and the day the music died on KILT AM in 1980 (well the day they went country, that is).

Lol, well yeah there is CBS-FM to take into consideration, but how much of that is CBS not trying to do anything else to upset New Yorkers with regards to the heritage 101.1 dial position?

I guess I'm just more partial towards Cox for bringing a classic hits format to town, since I know how good KONO-FM is, and that several of the longtime "classic Top 40" voices that are known well in this market, already work for Cox Houston.

One thing about Cox Radio, at least as far as Houston goes, they've certainly found their foothold in this market and each of their 3 stations here sound top notch.

Not exactly sure what changed over the past couple of years, but someone within the Cox Houston family woke up. They get it now, and operate the cluster with a little swagger and confidence, and it shows in what's coming across the air these days at 92-9, 97-1, and 106-9.


Now, if they'd have just given "The Zone" a chance, we wouldn't be talking about how bad The Buzz is these days because, well, there likely wouldn't be a Buzz to speak of, but I digress, lol.

Just think if Cox was to get ahold of another FM in the market to reach the cap. KRBE would be a nice add. Another possibility: KROI, which could become the south side simulcast of Country Legends (and restoring a pairing that existed in the early 90's.) Of course CBS also has room for one more...

How about WOCL-FM "105.9 Sunny FM" in Orlando? It is a classic hits formatted station owned by CBS and launched in 2008. They have a large playlist and the station is a huge success there and I am confident that this format would work in Houston. All this talk of CBS flipping 100.3 is hilarious. It's their highest rated station in Houston. Does anyone really think they're going to blow that up? Why would they?
