Gambling makes some news

When I saw the headline I thought maybe the story was about the casinos in AC. ;)

Then I read the Daily News story.

About half-way through I recalled a Bill Mauldin from 50 years ago. Barry Goldwater sees a homeless person lying in an alley and he says, "If you had any initiative, you'd go out and inherit a department store." Here's John Whatever Gambling with the only four generation inherited position in radio and he's going "Boo-Hoo" that the mayor won't go on his show because he's "conservative." It's easy to be a conservative when you inherit something the rest of us have to work for.

The Daily News doesn't mention that we are not talking about WOR. We are talking about an unrated Salem station over in Hackensack. He got mayors on WOR because back then they had listeners. Now talk radio has lost most of its listeners and he's on a station that was never a contender to begin with. I see DiBlasio is going on "The Daily Show." If he gets booking like that, why bother with a station nobody listens to and a host your parents used to listen to?

Stupid New Yorkers voted for De Blasio. Just being on WOR wasn't the reason why he was able to get mayors. Did Mike Bloomberg do Mark Levin or Steve Malzberg's shows?

Good luck to New York. The city us back on its road downhill. Detroit East will return. You see it already. Aggressive panhandling, window washers, bums in Penn Station...1977 here we come!

John Gambling might have gotten a leg up because of his family but he didn't keep it all these years without delivering. What the hell have you done???

Come on guys, save it for the conservative talk shows. I hear they need all the vitriol-spewing callers they can get.

Speaking of which, what are Gambling's ratings now? Some of the lowest in town, right? So even if the mayor were inclined to do a regular radio guest appearance, why would he choose to go on a show no one listens to, on a completely one-sided conservative opinion station?

Here's a Daily News article on John Gambling's efforts to get the Mayor to come on his show:

One reason why Blaz isn't interested in Gambling's show is that his "audience" is too tiny and not the sort of people who have anything to say in NYC politics.

The same could've been said for Bloombag (my down-the-block neighbor) however he saw Gambling's softball outlet as a way to pontificate without having to answer any real questions.

ALL the talk and news media recorded the show, mostly the cable tv video feed, and excerpted it later.

DeBlazio said that he will guest on WQHT (Hot-97). That station caters to a young audience which is more likely to be amenable to his ideas, live in the City and VOTE.

You're comedy gold.

You call Gambling a softball outlet, then brag about Comrade DeBlasio appearing on Hot 97 as if that will be some great discussion of lofty ideals.

Your city is screwed, sir. And it's the doing of the people who live there. Enjoy the downfall. I hope you didn't buy your apartment or brownstone at the top of the bubble. Because Billy Boy is buying votes with the money used to keep that city together. By the end of his 3rd term, you'll be lucky to get 25% on the dollar for whatever property you own.

Boy, you sure are the archetypical hick -the real thing.

Just a quick check on relevance here, ask the average American where Gillette Wy is. Then ask where New York City is. Last year 54 million people found it. Like us, or hate us. this, and other big cities matter -we decide what goes on in little toilets like yours.

And that use of Conrade-? How the hell old are you? I have not heard that one in over twenty years.

Chan.

Small Market Guy hates it when "elitist liberals" pontificate about the industry and lifestyle of Gillette, Wyoming, but doesn't hesitate to rhapsodize doom and gloom for New York City.

Irony.

Gillette is famous. No, it wasn't named for the inventor of the safety razor. It was named after some railroad surveyor. But something was named for Gillette...

Gillette Syndrome
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gillette Syndrome is the social disruption that can occur in a community due to rapid population growth. Such disruptions usually include increased crime, degraded mental health, weakened social and community bonds, abnormally high costs of living, and other social problems.

Gillette Syndrome is most relevant to boomtowns that are growing rapidly due to nearby natural resource extraction, such as coal mining or natural gas drilling.

Psychologist ElDean Kohrs coined the term "Gillette Syndrome" in an attempt to describe the social impacts of rapid coal mining development on the boomtown of Gillette, Wyoming.

Songs about coal mining:

- 16 Tons
- Working in the Coal Mine
- Big John

TV shows about coal mining country:

- Justified

Major producers of methane:

- Cows
- Beans

You really are a hateful person. How did you get so vile?

And I've lived in big and medium sized cities. I've lived in Philly. I've lived in Jacksonville. I've lived in Hackensack. I'm no "hick". I prefer to live somewhere that I can leave my door unlocked at night without having to defend against home invaders. I like not having to pay $6000 a month for an apartment the size of a shoebox. I've been to New York hundreds of times. I know what it's all about. It's great for a visit, but you people really have turned it into a declining place.

Unless you live there, I can virtually guarantee I've spent more time in New York City than you have.

Oh, and by the way, you might want to lay off on the personal info stuff. You've already been edited once by the mods. I'd hate (love) to see you get banned over your little temper tantrum.

Do you actually READ the stuff you write before adding all that sanctimony? The "hate" is all on your side bro.

I know what you are. I'm done with you.

Chanon.

I'm not the one calling people "rubes" or "hicks". I LOVE New York City. I spent the majority of my first 40 years living either a 20 minute train ride away or at most a 3 hour drive from Midtown. I wish your gang hadn't ruined it so bad that I had to move 2000 miles away.

So again, how did you get so hateful?

The "personal info" which you invited me to find in the first place wasn't even relevant to this thread. I'm not the only one discussing Gillette, Wyoming.

I don't think the mods need you personally taking up for them, or expressing your glee if they ban me. That's very telling - that you're so thin skinned you're rooting for someone to be banned even though the thing they "did" was already taken care of.

But please, feel free to provide hard data and facts on how New York City will become Detroit. We'd all be entertained.

Please cool down. We don't all agree but we should understand that everyone is entitled to their opinions.

What surprised me about C-C booting out Gambling was that he seemed the near-perfect candidate for syndication. He constantly gripes about Obama, taxes, Gov't regulation and calls Climate Change a "hoax'. The typical upper middle-age white doofus.

Given where he ended up, it couldn't have been an issue of money.
