CFMI 101.1 Vancouver tweaking their format?

CFMI is owned by Chorus Media, and has been running a long time classic rock format under the "Classic Rock -101" moniker. However, it seems as if the programming is about to become a lot less "classic" in the very near future. CFMI has changed their logo, omitting the word "classic", in favour of listing the station simply as "Rock 101". If that is not enough, the station has changed their motto from "The best of the 60's, 70's and 80's" to "Greatest Hits of the 70's, 80's, and 90's."

I checked online, the one hour playlist is not showing any songs from the 1960's.

I realize that change must occur to keep a radio station going strong, but I just do not think that dumping classic rock songs from the 1960's is the solution. Chorus would probably PREFER to shape CFMI into the format on Q107 in Toronto, but CFOX 99.3 is preventing this switch.

I've been saying for years that both Corus owned FM properties in Vancouver CFMI 101.1 & CFOX 99.3 were competing against each other with their respective Rock formats. Well, now there is a huge difference between them as CFOX tweaked from Active Rock to Modern Rock this past Spring and CFMI has now tweaked from Classic Rock to Classic Hits. Someone at Corus finally woke up, now we'll just have to wait and see if these changes are reflected positively in the "often sagging" ratings of the two stations.

I'm going to have to disagree with you. CFOX's new modern rock lean didn't really impact CFMI. It just seems like an unneeded change. Now CFMI sounds like the new 104.3 (but with 90's)

One thing is for certain, CFOX must take a different lean than CFMI.

What I meant about CFOX is they were kind of competing with CFMI while running their former Active Rock format, not the new Modern Rock approach. Duplicated tunes were quite often heard on both stations in recent years. That is not happening anymore. If anything the buzz around town seems quite favourable with the updated changes at CFOX. As I said above the PPM's will tell the story.

I predict a bigger listener ship for CKKQ and KISM with these recent changes. CKKQ does play modern rock, but they play a ton of classic rock that CFMI never played when they were straight up classic rock.

It seems like CHLG is providing the perfect mix of programming for listeners who had an issue with CFMI's new lean. I was definitely NOT hip on CHLG (and I checked back on some of my rather rude and unprofessional comments. My apologies) when the flip first happened, but it seems like they've dialed it in quite well, they've added pretty much all of the music CFMI dropped and them some. I'm certainly no expert, but I'm very impressed by what they've done over there on 104.3. The morning show is very entertaining, Kelly Latremouille is back, it's actually a nice change.
