WINF 98.5 Delaware, OH

I heard an awesome soft AC/B-EZ station in Ohio, 98.5 WINF. They're a low power FM station in Delaware, Ohio, just north of Columbus. And they played a lot of soft AC and instrumental music.

Awesome FM 98.5, Delaware, Ohio

You weren't exaggerating a bit when you used
the word, "awesome" in your description. I've
been listening for hours now and it compares
with the very best I've heard in a very, very
long time!

They don't get any points for their website. The only way I could get it to stream (after way too much commercial time upfront - not suited to the audience for the music they play) is to put Firefox into "safe mode" with factory settings and all add-ons disabled. Not worth it. There are a lot of other good streams out there.

Awesome? That's a bit over the top. You guy's work there?

Fred, I commute each day from Prescott, AZ, home of
KAHM FM 102.1, to Delaware, Ohio to work at WINF.
I very much liked what I heard when I listened online
yesterday. I make no apologies for using "awesome"
in my description/title. You may want to check your
computer settings as I had no problem, whatsoever,
in loading and listening to WINF. It took about 5 seconds.

Did you really experience awe when you listened?

My "computer settings" are fine, thanks. It's their problem. There are thousands of audio streams that work just fine with Firefox set the way I want it. I'm sure there are dozens using the same music service.

One of the FCC's more idiotic moves is to allow LPFMs to clutter up the band and do nothing useful (just cause interference).

Five seconds when the cowcatcher spots run about 45? That's interesting.

Been listening since the post and totally enjoying the music. I have them on tune in and have no problems. Great station and wonderful programming. I had listened before to the Wave 101.1 but they stopped internet listening which is too bad. This is a great find. Thank you

Apparently, whoever designed their website needs to go back for website design 101. i tried to listen using IE10, which I almost never use, and it would not play at the factory settings. It does play in the factory settings of Chrome and Firefox but since both those browser feature add-ons, it may not work with user modifications. This shows somebody just set up the site on a particular browser and didn't bother to test it on other browsers and various common configurations. Very sloppy.

The streaming service they use is Authorized Stream. The music service they use is Addicted To Radio. Both have a wide variety of formats which can be accessed directly from their respective websites, with fewer glitches. Addicted to Radio also has Android and iPOS phone apps. The stream is also available through TuneIn.

Crying by Roy Orbison into Angel by Madonna was a bit of a jolt

Such a format is unique and unheard of these days. I was driving from Detroit to Columbus, tuning around the dial when I stumbled upon this station. Interesting how this station flew "under the radar" since it's a low power FM in a low populated area. The DXers wouldn't hear it since full powered Warm 98.5 from Cincinnati would overtake the frequency. It can't be heard on I-70 or in Columbus itself. I enjoy finding gems like this station when driving or DXing.

well I certainly wish there were more of them. They can be cash cows if you know how to do it.

Corporate radio does not, because corporate radio is bewildered as to how to sell 35 plus.

That should be 55-plus. And it's the advertisers and advertising agencies that have determined that older listeners aren't a cost-effective buy. Radio just marches to the agencies' tune.

our advertisers are very happy and have been with us for years. Previously the easy listening format had a #2 book in 25/54. That station was billing over a million dollars a year in market 157. That's my point. Everyone just assumes only very old people listen to the format. If you program and promote it correctly, it works just fine.
