August 10, 2014) George Nicholaw, former general manager of all-News station KNX has passed away in his home last night. He was 85. Tomorrow’s LARadio will be dedicated to George, the recipient of the first LARadio Lifetime Achievement Award.
George Nicholaw became vice president and general manager of KNX in August 1967 and guided the station's switch to a news format in 1968. In 2004, a year after leaving KNX, he filed an age-discrimination lawsuit seeking unspecified punitive damages. He also served as chairman of the California Horse Racing Board.
I updated his Wikipedia entry. As of 1:00 today, the KNX/KCBS/KCAL website has no mention of his passing. For shame!

Sorry to hear. He was GM at KNX for what seemed like forever. (EDIT: And Steve's post, which wasn't up when I started writing, explains that perfectly.)
Here is a 2006 story about Nicholaw's age-discrimination suit. It details how KRTH's Pat Duffy was taking over KNX and KFWB and Nicholaw's position was being eliminated. Nicholaw refused to accept a demotion and a huge pay cut and was terminated. An appellate court upheld the termination.
