Actually I am registered under a different name(River) but it wouldn't let me post so I had to use another name as a guest(Rrrrzzzz419), If you could change my settings that would be great!

Have more information on Rock 94.9 Birmingham here is an interference study which shows it shouldn't have as much static in Irondale an in Trussville as you thought it would tomservo, that is if this map is correct. https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS...?appn=101646056&qnum=5110&copynum=1&exhcnum=2

Yet another piece of the Rock 94.9 puzzle as fallen into place, On http://hdradio.com/stations set to Birmingham the Vulcans information use to read "Birmingham's Only Rock Station", but now reads "Your Rock 103.1 The Vulcan", This seems to indicate Rock 94.9 is legitimate.

The 94.9 translator was on the air tonight. I heard it around 7 pm here while in the car here driving in south Shelby county. Fairly good signal, all in all, for a small signal. Opearting in mono.

Could you tell if it was operating of 102.5 WDXB HD2? The website is up now http://rock949.com

It looks like it'll be good to go on car radios, though I still have my doubts how well it'll do on portables and in buildings. Center Point's going to be another thorn if and when that Sankofa Youth LPFM gets running on 95.1. I am thinking that we may see a CP Mod come through with them moving up a channel, paid for by CC, followed by some signal tweaks for Rock 94.9.

BTW, the website is up and running now, too.

Believe it or not, I was able to pull up the 94.9 translator on a clock radio here in my house with a fairly good signal. and I live in the very southern end of Shelby county. I imagine once the stereo is turned on, the signal won't be fairing as well. I have no idea if CC is broadcasting the station on WDXB HD2. Obviously, they should be, since the translator cannot originate its own programming. I doubt many people actually own an HD radio to check and see, anyway.

You'd be surprised how many HD radios are out there now due to iBiquity's aggressive push to get it in new cars. I'm seeing the logo on at least half the radios in new cars I'm seeing out there. Whether or not it's turned on and active is anyone's guess, but considering how poorly the HD is maintained in most markets, I can't imagine it stays on for long in the hands of purchaser.

A translator like this would do good to occasionally mention the HD broadcast, since WDXB's HD coverage, at least when sitting still, is much, much bigger than the translator can cover. The few times I've visited Birmingham in the past, I've stayed in hotels on the outskirts of town and have had to resort to the HD feeds to hear any of these formats. None of the translators have enough punch to really penetrate hotels, which are full of noise.

I called Clear Channel this morning but the person I reached couldn't tell me if Rock 94.9 is in fact being fed of 102.5 WDXB HD 2 or not, but radioinsight reported that it was being fed of this channel so I think It's True. I am sorry for anyone who liked foggy mountain as it has been likely taken off the air in Birmingham. If this is true about Rock 94.9 replacing the foggy mountain programing it should be able to be heard as far north as Falkville(in motion) and likely Hartselle(not in motion). I tested this with one of my HD Headsets going down I 65 south to Birmingham. It is true that probably half the new cars out there have HD radios in them. For a person that owns a car with one in it could pick up the HD signal farther then the translator itself.

Side Note: However it will be interesting to see what happens if and when 106.5 Kiss FM's Construction permit gets completed. I know while not in motion you can be the 100.3 HD 2 signal as far west as Florence, and while in motion as far south as around the Hartselle / Decatur area. However once the construction permit gets completed on the translator, it will be interesting to see if its signal beats the HD signal especially to the north and south.

I guess I should have mentioned earlier that, although the 94.9 translator is on the air, there is no audio. Checked it again today...it's the same.

Classic Rock 94.9 is now on the air. 99.5 lives once again...just in a reincarnated form. Of course, I'm kinda partial to my own version of the former 99.5 FM. ;) For those wondering...the legal ID is given as "WQEN HD3", not WDXB HD2.

So Foggy Mountain will be staying in Birmingham on 102.5 WDXB HD 2 after all.........

The new Rock 94.9 Programming has been added as an HD 3 on 103.7 The Q..........

I find it interesting that both The Vulcan 103.1(103.7 HD 2) and Rock 94.9(103.7 HD 3) (both are Birmingham's Rock stations) are being relayed off the Q's HD sub channels ..........

Now I wonder if in a few years 102.5 WDXB (The Bull) and Magic 96.5 (WMJJ) will have HD3 Channels as well, 105.5 WERC already does.............

103.7 must be happy, 99.5 is stunting with Sweet Home Alabama and promoting a 3pm flip.

I'm interested to see the same with Kiss-FM. In motion, the HD2 on 100.3 had gone out on me in parts of north Limestone county and it goes out completely once you enter Jackson county on Hwy 72. The projected coverage area for the CP of 106.5 looks nice and I'm willing to bet it will beat the HD2 parent signal, at least in motion. I don't know the time frame to expect the upgrade to the translator to be completed but I hope it's soon. It will definitely help in the county areas and improve coverage in Athens and Decatur as well. I've asked this before on the various board sites but have had no luck so far, but I wonder why they don't subscribe WQRV HD2 to the ratings. CC does that in all other markets that they relay HD subchannels on translators but Huntsville. I'd be interested to see how well Kiss is doing and if the upgrade will have more impact on its numbers then its built.

On the topic of Rock 94.9, now that its officially on, did they turn on the stereo? If not, do you think they are keeping it off on purpose due to the limited coverage area?

ummm..someone just posted on Facebook that WZRR is pulling the plug on the Vibe and going back to classic rock. If so, that's PRICELESS it is happening on the same day that Classic Rock 94.9 officially debuted. I don't guess Cumulus took too kindly to Clear Channel running away with their former station's identity. Not sure, but WZRR is playing a loop right now of "Sweet Home Alabama". Make that THREE versions of the former 99.5 now.. ;)

Just discovered this on Wikipedia.

On August 15th, 2014, 99.5 dropped it's CHR format and began stunting with the songs Sweet Home Alabama by Lynrd Skynrd and All Summer Long by Kid Rock on a loop, while running liners advising listeners to tune in at 3pm. At that time, 99.5 will likely flip to country, being one of the first stations to join Cumulus's new "Nash Icons" network as Nash Icons 99.5.

That's what most people are assuming is going to happen, but if you listen to WZRR right now, they are running promos about "Birmingham icons". I know Cumulus is unveiling several "Nash" stations at 3 pm, but who knows whether this format change at WZRR is one of those new "Nash" stations. Obviously, "Nash" isn't a Birmingham icon, nor was 99.5's country format as "K-Country 99/US 99. Many believe Cumulus is bringing back "Rock 99", but I've been pondering it, though... wasn't the last song played on K-99 (the day they went to a country format in '82) "Sweet Home Alabama"? Just wondering if maybe the Birmingham icon that's returning at 3 pm is K-99, and not Rock 99...

99.5 might go with "Nash" after all. I just pulled up the Birmingham, AL listings on the TuneIn app. The listing for 99.5 has an icon which reads "Nash Icon 99.5". There is no stream, however, when I select it, and TuneIn sends me to a "similar station". Evidently, the "icon" that is mentioned on WZRR is the "Nash" icon..or at least that is what it appears to be, anyway.
