Why China's Richest Man Could Buy Time Warner

mmmm... I read the article, and it's really going to come down between him, and Disney, but also one thing they forgot to mention, a combination of ABC, and ESPN's sports rights, with Turner's sports right would make Disney the most powerful name in sports also they could combine Turner's sports operations with that of ABC, and return The ABC Sports brand, additionally they could combine CNN, with ABC News. Also if The Disney/Time Warner merger happens, they would make them the biggest movie studio and entertainment operator, so it's really coming down between him and Bob Iger, who's going to spend the most money, and buy Time Warner? Well have to wait and see what happens in the weeks to come.

Wang Jianlin's plan for a $1.2 billion Beverly Hills compound might be the next big step toward owning a Hollywood studio

Wow, now this would be huge, I wonder what his next big acquisition may be? I'm going to guess that his next big acquisition after his purchase of TW, that he may go after The ABC Network, and it's 8 O&O stations, etc. especially if Disney decides to consider selling all of their O&Os, I'm sure he'll not only be interested in the O&Os but also the network itself, plus their news division, and their sports rights.

My sense is that the Time Warner folks think selling individual assets will get more money in the long run than selling the whole thing at once. Plus it allows them to continue to reap the profits from the most valuable assets a lot longer. They're in no hurry.

Are you forgetting the FCC's 25% limit on foreign ownership of broadcast stations?

And if you have enough money, you can become a citizen. Exhibit A: Aussie Rupert Murdoch.

Yep, and if wants to buy Time Warner, he would have to lose his Chinese citizenship, just like what Murdoch did, he had to lose his Australian Citizenship, in order for him to own WBRC in Birmingham during the period of Affiliation switches (1994-1997). But as far as money goes, he's plenty rich enough to lose his Chinese citizenship, and become an American without any problem whatsoever.

Time Warner only owns two broadcast TV stations, so he could just sell them. The ABC purchase would be different.

In addition to the citizenship change, Murdoch had to reincorporate News Corp. to an American company. That was a huge pain in the butt, far more work than simply the citizenship change. A lot of requirements from the SEC. I'm not sure if this guy would have to do the same thing. I think Sony reincorporated at some point.

Exactly he would have to reincorporate his company here in the states

The bottom line is that if you have enough money, and you are willing to use it, then you can pretty much do anything you want to. People can nitpick over the details all they want. The details don't mean a thing. Money talks.

Or rich and powerful friends like George Soros. Exhibit B: Kenyan Barack Hussein Obama.

Jeez, you're a birther! That explains a lot. In your third grade geography class they should have told you where and what Hawaii is (even if they didn't get around to Kenya). Speaking of rich and powerful, how about Donald Trump, The Koch Brothers, Philip Anschutz, Grover Norquist... No, they are in a different category: Rich and crazy.

You need money? I know a lot of people who are dirt poor and became American citizens. It's not that hard or expensive, and you don't even have to give up your prior citizenship, most of the time.

I can't remember everything involved, but as I recall they had to reissue the stock. It took a long time. But he was allowed to own Fox during the process.

Right I think it was back when all of the big switches in media markets were happening sometime in the mid-to late 1990s. Somewhere in that neighborhood.

I agree, I'm sure he does have more than enough money to go after Time Warmer.

Really? Then why are so many people here and remaining "undocumented." Yes, people can become citizens if they stay on the waiting list long enough, meet some quota, have an in-demand job skill, or have money to invest which will create jobs. Those in the last group jump to the front of the line.
