Oldies bites the dust...AGAIN!!!

if you count the time at 99.1 fm I guess you had 99x when it left 97.9fm then active rock as the Bone until they merged it with Rock 100.5 then Christian ac/pure country hybrid as the Walk then oldies from the True oldies channel then the same from good time oldies.

What is the record for shortest time between flips??? If you count True oldies to Good Time Oldies, this must be it.

SMH (shaking my head)

Just what is needed, with The Bull and Kicks fighting it out, I am sure the Cloud Company is gonna whip em into shape with their little 250 watt FM toilet bowl translator. Corporate radio...gotta love it.

Now...back to XM....

Not Good

Guess they weren't getting the numbers they wanted. But they weren't putting much into it either. The tower rent cost more than the electric bill.
Probably a management change caused this. This means that 106.7 could change too. 106.7 has GOT to be operating with a negative cash flow. High salaries and low ratings do not mix well.
I have heard from sales weasels that country is always easy to sell. (The hardest to sell is liberal talk). Clients are very picky when it comes to spending their money.
BUT, this opens up the format to move to another station. Hopefully, one with management who will wait longer than one book before giving up on the format.

I really do not understand this at all. It cost them nothing to do this station. No local on air talent, no promotional costs( there should have been some, but this station was never promoted) and no need to pay for what was broadcast(Cumulus owns WestwoodOne). Hopefully, the oldies format(good Times, Classic Hits, or a mash up of the two) will pop back up in Atlanta in the next year or so. I expect that 106.7 is going to have a change soon. It will probably go to a similar format-No local on air talent. All prepackaged.

Does this mean Cumulus has two Country stations in the same market?
Back to the future...when Disney/Citadel had both Kicks and Y106/Eagle.

Because Cumulus is so bright, they left the old oldies98.9 Facebook page up. They already have deleted several negative posts ,but 1 is remaining that they forgot about. They also have a new Facebook page for the new format. I encourage you to go to this page and write a note about wanting the Oldies back! https://www.facebook.com/989nashicon/timeline

There is a common misconception that a station with no jocks costs nothing to run.

The overhead even without jocks is significant.

There is electricity, tower rental or taxes on the tower site, engineering, parts and maintenance, traffic, bookkeeping, billing, sales salaries, commissions and sales promotion, a percentage of the cluster expenses for management, legal, office space, insurance, telephone, and so on. Plus there is the cost of the money used to acquire the station...

They will do the same thing there as well, take negative posts down, talk about freedom of speech. This company is worse than CC. Agree the oldies were the best…Hate these radio companies these days. They dont care about the people who actually listen.

LOL. That was quick. they removed 2 comments already. Nothing negative, just asking for oldies! I say people should still post there. Make Culumus work!!

they have two 100kw country stations in Nashville...now both wearing some form of "NASH" branding:

103.3 WKDF became NASH-FM several months ago
95.5 WSM-FM became NASH ICONS on Friday ...

Yes, they do have two stations with the same format. Rodney's got a recent column on this. Seems to be a way of freeing up Kicks to gun heavy for The Bull.

A shame to lose the oldies; my wife will have to find something else to listen to while on the treadmill.

But then The Cloud Company will likely change the format the week before Thanksgiving and go all Christmas, and move NASH to 106.7. That would finish off The Kimmer.

The Kimmer and Michael Graham are signed through next year - they've said so on their shows. I don't see Cumulus ponying up settlement costs to flip 106.7 this far from contract expiration.
