FamilyNet Acquires Classic Sitcoms

I remember when WEDE-CA 34 (now WEDE-CD) was affiliated with Family Net, & anytime they had CBS distributed programming on, WEDE-CA had to replace the programming with something else, since Weigel Broadcasting's had the rights to the shows for then local MeTV (even today as a national network, they still have the rights to the CBS shows). When they dropped nearly all their affiliates, WEDE-CA (now WEDE-CD) started programming the station themselves, & haven't affiliated with any network. At least OTA, Family Net is no longer available in Chicago, & not sure who might affiliate with them. Whoever might want to affiliate with them will either have to spend the money to get their own rights, or pre-empt the classic shows like WEDE-CA did.

Not just sitcoms, but action shows, TJ Hooker, Starsky and Hutch, and Charlie's Angels. Weekends will have movies from the Columbia Pictures library. The RFD-TV schedule on FamNet is no more.

Seems more of a gambit to me on RFDTV's part to strengthen their carriage attempts to get on Comcast, Time Warner, etc. as part of their opposition to the Comcast/TWC/Charter merger/spin-off. They tried to split up the rural programming among FN and RFD when they bought FN, but often it's still split up where RFD's in a general tier while FN is in some kind of family tier and the cable companies are making the baseless 'well just move your rural stuff to FN, there you get carriage' argument (which will somehow be a breach of contract among cableco lawyers and enough to bump FN off too; the CEO of Rural Media Group is one of the smartest guys in cable and knows not to do that). Smart of them to do this and rack in the commercial money with traditional sitcoms there, while keeping RFD a pure rural play.

Is FamilyNet carried by Comcast nationwide? It's hard to find exactly who their affiliates are as the website says little about this.

Family Net isn't on Charter cable in Jackson, TN, but they're on JEA cable. They used to have an LP station in Jackson, but they were too weak to get where I live and weren't on cable. Although the schedule looks like a lot of overlap with Antenna TV on the sitcoms and Cozi TV on the dramas, I'd like to be able to get it. If I was able to get it I'd probably consider it my number 3 choice for retro TV after Me TV and Antenna TV.

Is it still a Christian friendly channel? It's owned by Rural TV so it's ownership isn't per se.

But it's packaged with Christian Dish:

It's picking up Bewitched where it's previous owners wouldn't likely carry such show. I believe that show runs on Logo (Christian unfriendly) or was on it not long ago as well.

I don't think that Family Net is being pushed as a Christian channel now, although they still appear to have a block of Christian programming on Sundays according to their schedule.

I also had the thought that there are some shows on the schedule now that wouldn't have been there when it was considered a Christian channel like certain episodes of Barney Miller and the Lear-coms that they have added, and also the cop shows. But it's still closer to being family oriented than ABC Family.

Charter just recently announced that they will be going all digital in the Jackson, TN area, along with some changes in their lineup, starting Tue. 9-16, and it looks like Family Net is being added on channel 105 in the Silver package, which is what I have.

Apparently the link for the channel lineup I posted doesn't work, so please ignore that. Sorry.
