Is there anyone home at My-FM in Ontario?

It seems to me that the "My FM" radio stations in Eastern Ontario are jockless jukeboxes with morning news. I'd love to see what the studio of these radio stations looks like.

That sounds about right. There is local news though, even in the afternoon, and I've heard jocks. They might be voice tracked. One thing I've noticed is that 2 of the 3 I get are syncrhonised...one being a repeater of the other..and the 3rd is about a minute behind...and all playing the same songs in the same order.

That's interesting. I assume these My FM stations are the "lifeblood" of many communities in Ontario, though. I knew of someone in the Renfrew county area who claimed that My FM was the most popular station in the area.

At the same time, there are other stations (and repeaters) out there which also broadcast local programming. I'm sure there are other places where other stations do even better.

I think the playlist may be the same across all stations, but the breaks are timed enough to give announcers just enough to promote local events, give the news, etc. Kind of like they're given x amount of minutes/seconds before the automation kicks in again. The timing difference may be due to the length of breaks. There's no doubt these stations are popular. They may be the only clear signal some get on substandard radios, but for people like us who have good radios, Ottawa isn't hard to hear in Renfrew, which has a surprising amount of variety on the dial.

And if you are much father north and west, you are probably listening to these guys... http://www.star96.ca/

Star hits Renfrew perfectly. It's good in Arnprior and even reaches Kanata and Stittsville quite well. Star is Country, so those who like country are listening, and those who don't would be sampling MY FM or Ottawa AM or FM stations. CFRA does very well in the valley, and TSN 1200 does as well, drawing advertising in the valley.

How well do the Ottawa FM's reach Pembroke?

The most powerful ones have a signal that is hit or miss. There are about 4 that have repeaters for Pembroke. CBC English and French. CKQB 106.9 and CHRI 99.1 Frequencies given are the Ottawa signals.

That's cool. From what i've heard, "Star 96" is king out there, though!
