I wonder what am 1260 will sound like after september 26th.

Have they filed a STA to go dark?

Maybe they could let U Mass feed it audio to keep it on the air? Or better yet the Talking Information Center

It may take more than a year to unload that pig, I know all they have to do to stay in play is power up once in that year to reset the clock and refile the STA ... Disney should have enough $ to keep the transmitter on.... the question is the studio and staffing requirement...

I hope

I hope, and some company here, (anyone) should put on "The Touch" (Westwood One Radio Network-Formats). They should put that on. The Touch is the best Urban AC station out there.
Or, another idea is Clear Channel should put on (Evolution) on there
Last idea-Some company should put it as (News Talk) and go up against WBZ

Welcome back, Lauro!

1260AM future.

EDM on an AM signal! Now that would sure to be a success!

Seriously, I would hope someone tries to service the Urban population of Boston as Touch 106 tried to do. They would probably have to be more news/talk on AM1260 rather than music intensive like Touch 106.1 was. But all the things that Clemons claimed Touch 106.1 was to the community could be done on AM 1260. (news, public affairs, gospel, candidate interviews, etc.)

Putting any format on will cost money that they don't want to spend. Even putting some version of ESPN Radio will cost money.

How about NOAA Weather Radio 24/7, as WLVH Hartford (now WZMX) did for several months about 25-30 years ago when its ownership went belly up?

I would imagine that there are some black leaders with money to invest in something that would be beneficial to the black community. But a directional AM with phasors, towers, price tage, etc....would be an expensive proposition.

That opportunity has been there for a long time, and they chose to do a pirate FM.

Yeah, I know....they want what they want. (But that was only one organization...with one personality behind it.)

Curious, where was the opportunity previously to buy a full-time AM (for fire-sale prices)?

Wimmmex, you make a whole lotta sense! Given that "the Urban population" already has, what, maybe FIVE "music intensive" stations - KISS, JAM'N, Hot 96.9, AMP, MIX - I'd say a GOOD news/talk on 1260 would be just what the doctor ordered. In fact, if Disney really wanted to, they could consider making a civic-minded gesture and donate the station to a reputable, responsible urban organization.

They have 15 days after turning it off before having to notify the FCC it is off...then they have until 30 days before having to file the Silent STA....then of course a year before the license is cancelled unless the station resumes operations for even just an hour or 2....then the one year clock (with correct paperwork filed) starts all over again....Im sure someone will make on offer on it before that happens...

Clear Channel donated a few to the Minorities in Media Telecommunications Council. They then hand them off to qualified owners. The real problem isn't getting the license. It's coming up with capital and operating expenses. I was at a station where we got the license & transmitter for free. Then we had to get a building, outfit the studios, move the antenna and transmitter, hire a staff, and complete all the legal paperwork. We were almost a million in debt before we even signed on.

Thanks for letting me know. I figured it might have been done some place at some time. I think in back of my mind I had an inkling that getting and staying on the air would be the real challenge.

Last week I was rolling tape (really disk space) on 1260 to get some more HD music samples. So far they are doing nothing promoting that they are leaving the air and letting people know to find them elsewhere (although they do plug the radio Disney app frequently). In addition they were promoting making on appearances later this month in the area (Methuen I think). No indication to the average person they are about to pull the plug. I realize most people are already streaming them but it seems strange to continue acting as if the station is going to be around for more than another week.

I wonder if Disney plans to have a crew that roams the country doing "station" appearances after all this goes down.

I think it was a few weeks with 93.7 FM of Hartford. As for the time frame, it was in 1990, after the Spanish format ended and before The New Mix 93.7 (AC) started.
