WUFC trying to get WMEX calls

http://bostonherald.com/news_opinio...slam_talk_station_dials_up_push_for_wmex_name

(Jerry Williams jingle) do you disagree? or do you agree? Well whatever it is be sure to let us know...
WMEX 1510....maybe. They're out there.
Wallis & Berner at WUFC attempting to buy call letters of "small New Hampshire station" WMEX.
They want to add more local including more Boston Herald radio. And there's talk of buying a "120,000 watt" station in Vegas.

Huh?

Good night and good luck, good night to you

Here's the obvious....If they got the call letters WMEX and the played oldies, maybe somebody would actually listen to them.

People would listen to them, but they'd have to go listener sponsored like WJIB. The audience would be mostly my age (late 50's) and older, they wouldn't be able to sell ads to the demographic.

There are some Class C (100,000 watt equivalent) FM's in the Las Vegas area. Not quite 120,000, but close.

At one point WMEX calls were on 1150 w oldies. Also they
were on an FM in Lake Champlain area (Westport NY),
I think Langer had them briefly on 1060 for talk w
some RKO alumni (Clapprood, Burns, Jerry W?), Rochester
NH etc. When people hear WMEX calls do they think of
a pop station in 60s, or the nightly Jerry Williams talk
show?

People who were listening to the original WMEX (1510) in the late '50s and '60s may think of both, because there was a period around that time when it was a legendary Top 40 station in the daytime and early evening, then Jerry Williams did a late night talk show. That was before he was on WBZ and later WRKO, and much later briefly on the Boston area's third short-lived WMEX 1060 AM.

They had Arnie "Woo-Woo" Ginsburg, too! I've even got an MP3 version of the jingle and a few other things I've ripped from YouTube. My mum used to listen to him all the time. And I don't know what the board procedure is for introductions but I'm Riina, 25 and living in Massachusetts, though since the majority of my family came over from England (even if they didn't have heritage from there) that's generally how I speak and type. Nice to make everyone's acquaintance!

Cheers and blessings,
Riina
