All Access: WRKO wants talk host

Boring and predictable describes howie carr. Add him to his death pool at least in a radio sense. Services at Waterman's 2-4; 6-8!

And with that we have Larry....still waiting on Curley.

Remember Omnibus...it's all about broadcasting...it's not all about you.

it's widely rumored that his former colleague, WRKO 680's Howie Carr, will end his 20-year afternoon run at the Boston heritage talk station and move over to Armstrong's radio operation where he will base his new syndicated show which expected to launch in early October. Of course, it's very possible that WRKO will still run Carr in a syndicated form as its Boston affiliate if an affiliation deal is struck but don't be surprised if he moves the show to WUFC 1510(with a simulcast on Boston Herald Radio) or WXKS/Bloomberg 1200. WRKO has already placed help-wanted ads in the trade publications in the event Carr doesn't come back to them in syndication.

OH, HELL NO !!!! NOT Bloomberg 1200!

Well, there goes Howie's great dream to be "on FM" and on "a real station".

Not on a Boston FM, other than for the few who have HD radios-- WEEI-FM HD2. Howie is on FM on the Cape, in Maine, and in the Upper Valley of NH; WNTK has an app.
People listen on smart phones via TuneIn, iHeart (WHYN, WXTK) etc. The day of the marathon bombing, parts of his show were simulcast on 93.7.
And there is some FM talk in Boston, but he won't wind up there on the left end of the dial.

Bloomberg 1200 would be an improvement over 680 because the station wouldn't disappear when you drive past power lines.

Outside of 128 at night? To the North? 1200 doesn't even come in.

I would rather have a temporary power line problem than have no ability to listen at all after dark.

Speaking of WRKO and Howie Carr; shouldn't we have heard something by now? I thought his contract with Entercom was up. Will he be joining the Money Market radio network as believed? Will WRKO still carry the show or is another Boston station in the offing?

I do agree with the previous posters that Bloomberg 1200 would not be a good fit.

As I hear it, the syndication will be done by Global Media while the show will emanate from the Money Matters/Financial Exchange studios. Jason Wolfe ex-WRKO does some work for Money Matters now along with Ordway's SportsTalkBoston...maybe he will also work in helping to sign affiliates. Howie had said on air people should try the iHeart app, as a couple of his stations are iHeart (WHYN, WXTK too now?) and "more are coming". If that means the likes of WHJJ Prov, WGIR Manchester, WQSO Portsmouth, well who knows.

Two possibilities:
1) In 2007 when he tried to jump to Greater Media, judges ruled against him (he was to jump around late Sep or Oct 1), Todd Feinburg kept doing what was still called The Howie Carr Show and Howie returned around 11/19/07. Could it be that the contract extension became Nov. to Nov.? In 2012 Entercom piicked up their option for 2 more years. Recently Howie was asked on the chumpline why he was still bashing Entercom. He pretty much said, maybe referring to the late 2012 period, "I tried to force their hand" (to not renew him) but they decided to re-up. (But he still says Entercom happens, 2 yrs later...btw one time I was listening to Michele McPhee on 96.9 when it was talk and when a cut wouldn't work she quipped, Greater Media happens!")

2)Maybe somehow they're waiting for afterthe election coverage and then Howie moves to his own network control? Weird. No announcements etc as of yet.
