Are there still any pirates on in Houston??

Haven't had time to check but last I read, there was one or two pirates occasionally on in Houston...just wondering what the current situation is? Has anyone checked 87.7 and 87.9 to see if anything has popped up there? With KFDM Beaumont gone from the analog 6 channel, and even with the LD on 6 now but its signal is mostly south and off the air more than on, I would think something may have cropped up...I dont know of any LD6 in the Houston area...

I am somewhat intrigued by the City of Conroe getting a LPFM....wonder what they plan to do with it...run NOAA on it like most cities do with their TIS??? Or maybe carry city council meetings on it?? or play music??
I used to know of the folks in Conroe city government but not anymore..

There is one on Fry Road north of Morton on 103.5, rebroadcasting channel 11 audio. A lot stronger than a part 15 station!

For about a year in 2012-2013, I fed the online audio stream of 93QClassic and later JoeFM into a HLLY 30 watt transmitter set on 87.9 MHz. The output went to a homemade dipole secured near the top of a 75 foot pine tree on property I own in NE Houston (near the McCarty landfill). That rinky dinky set up covered a few miles, but nobody called when I gave out a phone number asking for reception reports. I took everything down in November 2013 -- about two weeks before I put KVDO and KJIB on the air in SW Houston.

Kids simply don't listen to the radio at all anymore, and any adults that do aren't willing to tolerate inferior signals with lots of fading and static. With the advent of internet radio and the ever growing number of people who prefer the streaming medium, the demand for broadcast radio is in decline and the audience for low power pirates almost nonexistent. On the internet www.JoeFM.net and www.TVJoe.net are still up and running, with each getting about a couple hundred daily hits. That's more listeners than I ever got playing with pirate radio or broadcasting with the now deleted LPTV licenses.

RBruceCarter5, I don't know why you're hearing TV audio out on Fry Road, but the same thing can be heard downtown near the IRS building. Some security guard told me its a fitness place. They have TVs all over the place for patrons to watch, but without the sound turned up. To help minimize noise, folks wanting to listen to the TVs have to use earphones. Apparently the fitness room is up in one of the highrises, and the height carries it over half of downtown.

It's been surprisingly quiet up this way. Last pirate I recall was the Acres Homes station at 96-1. Now, as Bruce said, Katy is a different story. I don't know presently, but at one time not that long ago, there were 3 or 4 various operations around.

The only unlicensed station around my area is me...and I'm Pt15 compliant, I promise, lol.

Stan, 96.7 does have an app for a xlator in Beaumont...but according to the filing, its supposed to be picking up an 88.1 station in JENA, LA off air....HA!!! Not a chance in hell.....(especially since 88.1 is already on in Beaumont...well its tower site is west of Beaumont off I-10)...where are you hearing it?? I am not right now.

Mind setting up a stream for that one, Stan? It would be interesting to know what you play and/or what transmitter you have, I'm mainly just curious, LOL.

Houston has lots of pirate activity when compared to San Antonio. There honestly isn't much over here.

My transmitter is part 15 legal. As for the stream, I'm working on some software issues that should be resolved shortly.

Look what we have here...? Seriously talking about this 30 watt pirate station only a few days after posting about various illegal activities?... You confuse me, 93Q, That's all I'll say.

LOL it's all good - time to move on...
