New AM this morning again 9/25/14

Sunrise seems to help...

1260 - KMZT Beverly Hills, CA; classical music over and under CFRN, mention of "K-Mozart," Tchaikovsky and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Heard at 0608 PT 9/25. NEW #616, 7.5KW, 858 miles.
Also heard an unid 1160 which was most definitely XEQIN, with SS talk under KSL, but no ID heard. KBAD 920 and KFLT 830 also noted this morning.

Late evening also brought me another CA station. This was on an unlikely frequency...

1000 - KCEO Vista, CA; under/over KOMO Seattle with soft religious music, prayer. hymns, "EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network" ID at 2245 PT 9/25. No KCEO ID but this is the only EWTN/Immaculate Heart station on 1000. NEW #617, which probably left the 5KW on. 937 miles. This is only the 2nd log on 1000! KOMO has always blocked my chances at anything else on 1000.
Hopefully I can get up earlier on weekday mornings and try for KKIM ABQ. I've heard a tentative under KOMO in the past during the early mornings in winter.

Mario, which direction was your radio pointed -- N-S? (i.e, the radio's front is facing north or south?)

If so, you might have heard CFAX Victoria BC.

If you hear Coast To Coast AM underneath KNX late at night, it could be CFAX. They pull in their signal towards the south, but they still run 10 KW at night.

The only way I'll ever be able to hear anything under / behind KOMO is to either travel far away, or hope for a silent period. Maybe one night the automation will glitch.

That's the good news about living 100 miles away from Seattle. I'm in sort of a "cancellation zone" for KOMO at night. It comes in, but not like a local signal. I've heard other religious stuff behind KOMO in the early mornings which was likely KKIM Albuquerque. Would like to try for KXRB Sioux Falls as well when they sign on with 10kw about two hours before local sunrise.

Mario: I also listen to KNX in Elk Grove on a Walkman when I can't sleep. I especially like to hear about Mike Diamond , the smell good plumber, who unclogs drains for $99 and the Audio Video Center that pays your sales tax on all 4k tv's. That must be Coast to Coast that is being heard underneath as a pop tune can sometimes bleed through (their bumper music)

Good one, crainbebo! I've picked that station up over here on the car radio in Phoenix before the comedy station on 1260 in Apache Junction cranks it up to full power. I know about KMZT as it's a "last resort" station when I can't find anything else to listen to when I'm driving around L.A. For many years, KMZT was KGIL; back in the 1970s, my mother and I would listen to "Sweet Dick" Whittington on KGIL morning drive when we lived over there.

Assuming you haven't picked it up yet, the comedy station in Apache Junction (I forget the call sign) is your next test on 1260.
