What's going on at WAMB

Wamb

I've noticed that as well. I figured they were just simulcasting the WANT-FM. They ought to just run automated standards/big band on the frequency until they decide what to do.

Firepoint, Don't you have better things to do besides getting on Social Media, sticking your nose and criticizing radio station manager's and owners? You have too much time on your hands, go get a job!

For the past 6 weeks I've noticed WAMB is on reduced power and is simulcasting with WCOR.

Didn't notice that, but I've only been able to pick up WAMB on Sundays when everyone here has their TVs off and their mobile phone chargers unplugged. When everyone comes back from church, the noise starts again. Nashville-area stations are hard to get in Macon County with a noisy band. When I'm in the area later today, I'll see what I can find. It'll give me a reason to take my new AM stereo boombox down there.

WCOR was itself simulcasting with WANT-FM, and only originating its own programming (ironically enough, the old WAMB format) for three hours a day. Is this still the case?

It was the last time I was able to pick up WCOR in Macon County, which has been quite a while ago.

I think the FM translator is on reduced power as well. Maybe they will sell the station to someone who cares.

The irony here is that I WOULD still have a job (in radio), except that those very owners and managers (no apostrophe in "managers") would apparently rather have 19-year-olds working for them, instead of guys like me. The 19-year-olds still live in their parents' basement, can work for minimum wage (or less!) and can be "paid" in promotional items that the station receives (thus does not pay for), like concert tickets, t-shirts, CDs, and fast-food restaurant coupons. I hear GMs complain about these guys all the time, and I just think, well, you get what you pay for! I have actual bills to pay, so I need actual $$$ to pay those bills!

I am at the opposite end of the spectrum here. I can pick up WAMB here in Cheatham County, but apparently not WCOR. It did not appear to me when I was listening earlier this week that WAMB was carrying the easy listening programming, assuming that WCOR is even still carrying it.

I spent time in Antioch last winter, and was able to receive WCOR from over there. Faint signal even there.

Update: WAMB is not carrying the big band programming. I heard country music over WAMB this afternoon, so they are apparently simulcasting directly with WANT-FM. At 1:00, I heard a legal ID for WANT-FM, WCOR, and WAMB AM&FM. Of those, WAMB-AM is the only one that I can pick up from here. So it appears that WCOR is also now simulcasting with WANT in the afternoon, and no longer carrying the three hours of big band music, despite the caption below the photo below:

Firepoint: You are calling me a Loser? I never have owned nothing in my life to lose (HA!) What a joke! I have a 19 year old that cuts my grass and he does a better job than some 40+ year olds! I am in my 50s, and half of my life is over.

Why do you care about what these AM Radio Stations are doing? I know Susie James over there and people like you stress her out concerning yourself with her radio stations. It's bad enough her Dad is gone, and I know how that feels.

All these boards are for is for gossip, made up rumors, lies, and like I said, people with too much time on their hands! Go find a job outside the radio station industry. Cumulus is the smartest radio company in America, cut cost, cut out people where the computer can do the job, plus savings!

Well, let's see, you apparently created an account SPECIFICALLY to bash me. Two messages so far, and both of them are bashing me. Yes, it is you who needs a life.

If this board is only for gossip, then why are YOU here?

By the way, you are being reported for trolling (again).

If Susie James is streesed out about what is talked about on these message boards, she should get out of the radio business! Its pathetic that WAMB is simulcasting (and poorly modulated at that) WANT-WCOR. There are a lot of things she could do with the station, run an automated standards or some other music format. Run a satellite business news format. or if she doesnt care about the AM stations, just sell them or turn in the licenses. But with WAMB and its FM Translator, she could do something that could make it work. It just takes money.

Yea, your right! I have checked this board for the past few years and you seem to post the most, and most of it is just boring or some rumor. If you can't get a job in radio, which these days, it's slim pickings all over the country, why not go to one of the TV Stations. There is one TV Station in this market that needs some experienced help badly! They have terrible news reports, the tech people make many mistakes.

I realize this is not a perfect world, but TV is where the jobs are, not radio. Lew Dickey of Cumulus is my age, and I will give him credit where credit is due. He is the smartest man in the media business, cuts cost to keep bankrupt companies alive where Cumulus has bought them and saved them. Oh buy the way, I am a part of Cumulus.

Like I said, go get a job, any job, and not sit on your can posting on radio boards and that other stupid radio board that I think is dead now, radio-talk.net

That figures, you helped run 97.1 into the ground until Come-in-last sold them to K-Love. Remember how they used to play the same song as much as FOUR times in a row? Yeah, we will credit YOU for that!
