Atlanta Top Management Changes

iHeartMedia announced today that Atlanta Market President Matt Scarano is moving to the same position in Chicago. Matt was here for years, most notably in sales management at WKHX and WYAY, and then became General Sales Manager at Clear Channel in Chicago before returning to Atlanta. He appears to have earned his new job by achieving positive ratings and revenue results in Atlanta.

Jon Pinch, who a couple of weeks ago appeared to be forced into retirement as co-COO of Cumulus, is the company's new Atlanta Market Manager. In the past 4 or so years, that job has been filled by Gary Lewis, Chris Murray, the Volkswagen dealer guy, Jeff Brown and now Jon Pinch. My head is spinning. The only station in the cluster that has had constantly high ratings is Q100. Rumors of changes at Kicks have been flying for months. (They did make a change in afternoon drive.) Cumulus will be an interesting cluster to watch.

Hmmm. Wasn't Matt Scarano the one who took WGST Hispanic for 6 months??? Hmmmm.

Little surprises me when it comes to Cumulus but that did. Not that he decided to take the Atlanta MM job, but that it came in a separate announcement after it was announced he was retiring.

Hopefully he will show Bloomquist the door. There's an opening at The Building of Death.

It's really hard to say whose decision the WGST change to Hispanic was. It could have been Matt's, or it could have come from corporate. In any case, that was a minor thing compared to the successful launches of Radio 105.7 and Power 96-1. Both of those decisions resulted in far more additional revenue than WGST was billing before the change to Hispanic or after. And if you're going to blame Matt for everything, you should give him credit for The Bull's tremendous success.

I have to agree with that. CC is no Cox killer, but they are definitely doing much better with Power 96, Bull, and Radio 105.7. Probably the best those signals have done since the Jacor days.

WGST's biggest problem is their night signal, and their day signal is nothing to write home about, either. Management really can't do anything about those with a justifiable amount of capital. Prepare for WGST to really get clobbered during drivetime as the days get shorter.

They probably thought they could get some extra money for Patron with freebies on ESPN Deportes, but I guess that didn't work. How is Patron doing today, anyway? It wasn't that long ago they were CC's brightest spot.

"I don't recommend the Patron."--Michael Berry
