No LUV at KLUV

The afternoon guy Jon Sommers was sent packing..and it seems he'd been there for many years. His logical replacement should have been Zippo. Over the last few years I'd catch him filling in various shifts and doing some weekends. He was the reason I listened...I'd tune out during those looong 15 minute commercial breaks and then make it a point to come back cause Zippo is funny and sounds like a pro. He actually should be doing Mornings. So he's overlooked and they bring in, what sounds like a kid announcer with little experience from a market that couldn't be any larger than Lubbock. Me thinks the only reason for the change is budget...fire a long standing personality because he's making too much and hire from a smaller market a kid with stars in his eyes...for way less, "But Whoo..you'll be working in Dallas!" Too bad....lots of other options....my sirius satellite and mp3 player.

Zippo and GTO

Good time oldies simply doesn't pay what a full time position at CBS Dallas pays.

These guys took these jobs, for extra 'pin money', and thought it was OK.

One guy, 19 years in the place. Zippo was currently running on fumes.

Each satellite voice is 100% canned, each guy doing 8 hour shifts, 7 days a week.

Let's see how well that works out!

t.ain't so..

From a previous post:
"You're telling me that Summers has quit KLUV to do voice tracking for an un-proven format that Culumus isn't even sure they're going to continue? I find that difficult to believe. Why would Summers leave a steady job for something that's no better than a test run? And I can't believe that Cumulus is paying him more than CBS. Maybe some fact checking is in order here. "

Everyone in the entertainment field grabs as many multitasking jobs as possible.....to supplement vtracking part time on a test format with a beefy full time local situation is just good business, but alas nothing fair in todays radio economy. I believe Zippo still has his pt KLUV deal in evenings.

The format Summers and Zippo are doing is under WW1. They currently have 38 stations on board, and expect more by June. They are LIVE on WW1, not VT'd

K-LUV in the chitter

Agree. Me think K-LUV's in the chitter!

The rumored K-LUV format change that was circulating on here before the Christmas music last year might now be for the best.

A few days before his departure, I heard John say jokingly " I JUST LOVE CBS ".... I knew what he meant!

Last time I checked, Zip Dude was still retained to VT nights. There was maybe one day that both John and Jim were off. There was some serious "listing" (ahh, the opposite of listening) when both personalities disappeared simultaneously. I thought K-LUV was sinking very quick.

John is very seriously missed.

My favorite John Summers' K-LUV quote: "I ain't got no TIVO.... that sounds like a personal problem!"

Wish I had a TIVO to listen to John in the afternoons.

The "un-proven format that Culumus isn't even sure they're going to continue" WAS Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel, which Cumeless is no longer carrying as of the end of May....Good Time Oldies JUST debuted as of a week or two ago...and it's live....WISH someone could post a station carrying it on their stream. Would love to hear it...BTW the Cloud OWNS WW1 now...

Yes, Jim still has his PT deal with KLUV to do weekends or whenever he can...

Hi I think that kluv has made an poor choice by letting Jhon Summers go and I agree that kluv needs to bring back Jhon Summers back to kluv Kluv is not the same with out Jhon Summers and Jim Zippo should have been his replacement also when I call to request and song Blake Powers says he has 15 minutes to and make it quick and Jhon Summers did not do that again this is an plea to kluv to Bring back Jhon Summers?

His name is John, not Jhon.

John Summers is now full-time on WW1's Classic Hits format and Zippo is full-time on WW1 Classic Hits. Neither of them, I believe, V/T on Good Time Oldies anymore.

Did you mistype and mean Jim is on GTO full time? (I see the FB page is going away...is Cumeless already killing it?)

Jim was promoted full time from GTO to the Classic Hits format at WW1. This is why the GTO Facebook page will be closed.

Kinda guessed GTO would not last....the term "oldies" in an on air format name just does not work anymore...Classic Hits is what the Baby Boomers want to hear...

I don't know that the GTO format itself is going away. I'll ask Lori about it.

Hey Robert, from what I understand GTO is still gaining affiliates and doing well. WW1 just felt Jim's talent would be better utilized on the Classic Hits format since they are currently reaching so many more affiliates. For us, we couldn't pass on the full time opportunity. Jim was working full time on GTO (7 days a week, all 8 hour shifts) but it only paid as part time for the time being. So it was a no brainer to make the switch. Jim is also still doing his 7p-midnight M-F shift, weekends and fill ins on KLUV.

Hi
I think that Jim Zippo should have taken Jhon Summers place and Blake Powers taken Jim Zippos place on the night show I think that Jim Zippo needs to do the afternoon show and Blake Powers do the night show?
