September ratings

KQMV still #1 by a large margin, KISW up (did they pick up Bob River listeners?) KJR-FM holding steady with the new format, BIG jump for KING-FM...is classical becoming hot? lol.

Four things.

#1 Good for KING. I'm glad to see an atypical format ranking that high.

#2. It seems to be like Bob Rivers listeners would make the switch to KZOK. However, I do not recall KJR airing any music during the Bob Rivers Show, so maybe some of his listeners were not KJR listeners in general. I guess they could just as well tune into a morning show that is not on a classic rock station.

#3 Regarding KISW, I'd really like to know how many people are listening to their "Men's Room" program in the afternoon. The whole show concept is not something that I really understand, but it seems to be KISW's biggest selling point.

#4 I wonder if anyone still wants to talk about the wild success of KHTP. Granted, they are fairing well, but its not like they are challenging any of the major CHR players in town.

Recognizing that September will like prove to be somewhat of an anomaly with the Mariners playing well and Seahawks likely both drawing listeners, if you look at the ownership clusters, the two big players in radio- CBS and Iheart- don't make the top 10 (of course they likely do in demos) with smaller players Entercom, Hubbard and Bonneville as the clusters holding those spots along with independents. Interesting to see KPLZ rally back after a tough year while WARM who should be relatively unaffected by the M's and Hawks- lose ground.

In terms of ownership, iheart looks like they are having the toughest time. KJR and KBKS are the best they have at the moment.

160 + miles to the south Iheart Media is on top of the world. I know it's a smaller market but nearly a 3 point advantage over the next competitor I gotta say, wow! Maybe I'm naive, but still ,wow!

I speaking of AC format.

iHeart Media has some good stations down here! KKCW is miles ahead of Warm and always has been, KKRZ is quite a bit better than KBKS, and the rest are just icing on the cake. In fact, KJR-FM is the better Classic Hits IMO.

KISC in Spokane is definitely ahead of KRWM music-wise. Probably not with all the NYC/Los Angeles voicetracking but the music playlist is much better than Warm's tiring Bruno Mars, Adele, and those one or two Phil Collins/Cyndi Lauper/Madonna hits. "Today's Warm 106.9" sucks!

Could the KING-FM jump be because there's loads of people in Seattle that STILL need a station to relax and unwind to - since KWJZ was taken away and KZIZ-AM only goes 15-20 miles most days? Their smooth jazz format is not smooth jazz - it's pretty much AC with a few overplayed Kenny G songs. It really sucks compared to the one (103.7 the Oasis) I listen to from Albuquerque.

Dare I ask... live or tracked?
Some of both. KKCW is live in mornings, tracked in middays actually out of Seattle, live in afternoons, and tracked/syndicated in evenings. Lori (how does she spell her name?) tracks from her home studio in Aweburn. KKRZ is syndicated 6A-2P, live 2P-8P, then tracked after that, not sure what they do overnight. KFBW I think is live except for evenings when they're syndicated. KLTH is live and local but has a weird schedule like you'd find in some smaller markets. I'm not sure about KXJM, but I'd like to believe they're live and local 6A-10P.
