A plea to all of us on here

I may be a young lad in the world of radio, however I feel this request is long over due. There are some folks on here who constantly create trouble by way of incessantly bitching about WPHT or any other station for that matter. This is a board for discussing radio, not complaining and creating never ending arguments about what some station should do. I am fine with us throwing out ideas, but come on, can we just stop arguing about trivial things, and for the love of God, stop complaining about WPHT! Just stop! I applaud the members who have asked politely before about this, and I am also not saying it's wrong to get mad about something you strongly support. But the arguing on here is just getting plain annoying. I feel like I'm reading some political news forum on here with the amount of bickering I encounter. So yeah you can say "just change the page", which I do. However, we should know better than to argue like this. It's a bloody radio station, which even to me isn't that unequivocally important. Well, I've ranted enough. I do not mean to anger anyone by this, and apologize in advance. If anyone needs to, feel free to PM me. Hopefully this can bring some civility and peace back to the forums.

I think you are missing the point of these boards....

What other hobbies do you have to suggest to our resident complainers on these boards?

How do you propose to "save radio" by listening to radio with rose-colored ear buds?

"If you can't say something good about someone, sit right here by me."

"If you can't say anything nice, at least have the decency to be vague."

"If you can't say something nice, say something clever but devastating."

"If You Can't Say Anything Nice, Say It In Yiddish."

May I ask who died and left you as the sole judge of what should and should not be posted on this site? If Julius May wishes to complain about a certain station's programming, that is his right. If you don't like his opinions, move on to the next post.

@ ATrain:

I started out as a young lad of 52 with this internet radio-board stuff as SteveG (on Allan Sniffen's NYRMB). That was a few years after I completely gave up working in radio, as I'd done for 26 years. But still, this myopic, stupid, confusing (and occasionally rewarding) industry is in my blood until they plant me.
I enjoy the writings and the critiques and the bottom-line give-and-take from the folks here, Train. As pointless as they sometimes seem to you, that's how important they are to a lot of posters. As far as my own little retiree/DXer/mucis/nostalgia mind is concerned, this forum, and the NYRMB, and the Venta-Fybush boards are my 2014 newspapers. The Big A, Fred Leonard, David Eduardo, Goat, Shredder and others are my columnists.

Well, that's why * I'm * here, anyway.

'Peppertree' and 'Dave Clarity' were always great reads on this forum. I know where Pepper is, and he and I go at it (friendly) on a chat room at Top Shelf Oldies, but haven't heard from Clarity in some time. Are you on here with some other name, son?

I think it's pretty obvious whom he is referring to, and while I 100% agree that he has a totally irrational hatrd and obsession with WPHT, he's never going to change.

Thanks, Steve. I have wondered about Dave Clarity's absence, too. If he's lurking, I hope he'll come "out." I also miss Brusstar's regular participation. Maybe there's a progression here. People grow up, stop working in radio and then stop following radio boards.

I did look at Lance's board while this one was on "hiatus." But when this one came back, it seemed like mostly the same people and the same posts. So, why duplicate? The news part of his site is pretty interesting, though.

I * was * going to add Julius to my 'columnists' list until I realized that ATrain appeared to be complaining about a fellow who's always complaining!

Like the radio or the TV do, internet forums have the on-off switch, the volume control, the tuning knob or button, and all kinds of 'mute' strategies. I seriously doubt that ATrain's observations were designed to spoil anyone's fun here (except for Julius) or will result in ruining any zeitgeist. I merely used ATrain's post as a form of salute to all aboard here.

In all fairness, I've been visiting this board in its various incarnations for over a decade. In that time, there have always been one or two stations taking their turns in the barrel. Now it's WPHT. In the past, it's been WCOJ, WILM and a few others. Not a good sign when stations have more commentators than listeners. The beginning of the end.

Yeah I did not want to spoil anything, and believe me I was so utterly nervous of posting that, expecting to get a lashing from everyone on here telling me to leave if I got annoyed. Thankfully, that never occurred. So I do feel better now visiting this board. Yup, I reckon the station to complain about rotates every so often. Let's make a guess. In the coming year or so, WRDW will be replacing WPHT. Either that or a fight between WIP or WNTP.

Thanks for saying that, Fred. I actually miss regularly posting and writing about radio. But it's largely out of my control. There's not much left to talk about, so every now and then I'll drop in and see what's happening. I generally post in spurts, a few times a year.

I'm 99.9% sure Dave Clarity was posting here somewhat often right up until this forum disappeared a little while back. I haven't talked with him in years, but I can spot his writing a mile away. I haven't seen the username I believe was his most recent one since these boards returned.
