No Longer "Click"-ing in Dayton!

It's now Santa 101.5. If this isn't a desperation move I don't know what is. Over 2 months of Christmas music? Linus hasn't even welcomed The Great Pumpkin to his most sincere pumpkin patch yet! It's the way-to-damn-early Christmas station Charlie Brown! Santa must be bringing a format change in his sleigh. Not that any of Click's half-dozen listeners will care.

If domain registrations that contain the word "Hank" in them are any indication, K99.1 will get a classic country challenger. We know how well challenges to K99.1 usually go but maybe Alpha can carve out a niche.

It seems to me that "Hank" is too old of a name or artist reference for even classic country.

First B-94.5, now Hank. 2 weak signals taking on K99.1's well-researched blowtorch signal for the country audience. My money's on the K. Just curious, was Santa 101.5 the shortest lived format in Dayton radio history? And yes, the format change DID arrive before Santa's sleigh. A Rush Limbaugh "see I told you" moment for ME! Insert applause sound effects here.

I'm surprised that Santa format didn't last until December 26th. November 1 is just around the corner...

Hank will never topple the K (the signal alone, even with the booster will see to that), but, Shania, Garth, Alabama, Waylon and many other Country hits from the 80s-2000s are getting almost no airplay on K99.1. Essentially this is Alpha's own version of "Nash Icons" and it's already worked for them in another market. I showed my wife the playlist and she said she would definitely listen to a format like that. I'm going to say this one has a shot-not to be a 12 share station, but to do well enough. Anything has to beat Click's numbers. I did like that they took time to respond to comments on the old Click 101.5 Facebook page.

Oh it probably won't topple K99 but it will get people who have turned away from them and they will listen to Hank FM and if it allows the other Alpha stations to gain on K99 then it will be an added bonus. Alpha must have done a lot of research for them to flip it to classic country. Now I just wish someone would go after WTUE in the same fashion.

WZLR did at one point, when WTUE was still straddling the line being current and classic rock "the best rock ever made - the best rock being made". If I recall correctly, WZLR'S classic rock format (at the time) forced WTUE to pick classic. Interesting to see if K99.1 adds a touch more gold

After listening for a while, it's almost like a Jack format for country music. W-I-D-E spread of styles. But why the "hick" voice for all of the liners? I don't know anyone who talks like that. I swear, I thought that "icons" were cells phones for prison inmates!

It'll be interesting to see how this Country battle will go down in Dayton on both AM (WEDI/WBZI, and Springfield's WIZE, both Classic Country) and FM (WHKO and WYDB). I wouldn't be surprised if one of these stations start surrendering the white flag to K99.1 if their ratings start going south.
