Obit: Marcia Strassman ("Welcome Back, Kotter"), 66

Breast cancer has claimed the life of the actress who played the wife of one of TV's most beloved schoolteacher characters (portrayed by Gabe Kaplan) on the 1975-79 ABC sitcom "Welcome Back, Kotter." Ms. Strassman took on other roles through the years, but she is best remembered as Julie Kotter, who frequently had to, grudgingly, entertain her husband's juvenile delinquent students, who took the collective name "Sweathogs." Of course, we know that this show launched the meteoric rise of John Travolta as a matinee idol/hunk/teen girl pin-up (take your pick) in his first big role as Vinnie. But Marcia Strassman was one who helped make it happen.

She was also nurse Cutler on M*A*S*H in the first season.....(one of Hawkeye's favorites)...She was such a lovely woman..
Absolutely. I had a crush on her in the early 70s. I was not a Kotter fan. As far as I was concerned, they could have dumped Kaplan and all the Sweat Hogs and made the show about 'Julie." RIP.
