I have to wonder if the FOX is preparing for a move back to 100.5

As posted a couple of weeks ago, the playlist on WTFX has changed in a huge way over the last month or so. Could they be broadening their appeal for a move to the stronger frequency? With the "MYFM" thing being a flop, I could see them playing the Christmas music on their starting Saturday, then flipping to the FOX after the holidays. Anyone else feel this way?

I've been thinking the same thing, although the changes started before the full transition of 100.5 to MyFM. I don't see any possible way that MyFM is going to last much longer, and I feel like this week could be the end for them (Christmas music by Saturday probably, they could hold out until sometime next week though). When The Fox was on 100.5, they were dealing with competition from WLRS at 105.1, which despite everybody saying nobody has ever listened to 105.1, the early-to-mid 2000s WLRS was perhaps the most successful period for 105.1, and they did well enough to steal a significant audience away from The Fox. They're all alone now. Something will happen to 100.5 much sooner than later, because MyFM has been a HUGE flop. Will it be The Fox again? Who knows, but they don't have a whole lot of options.

Then again, how many times did 100.5 go Gen X-Mas, with everybody on here speculating that there was no way they were coming back... yet they did?

I believe it could happen.I think that The Fox should have never left 100.5.They could have weathered the bad times,Look at how things are now.The Fox on 93.1 has better ratings than 100.5 does.If it were me,I would move the Fox back to 100.5 and then put WKRD on 93.1 to compete with the soon to be sports on 93.9.

I really love Radiofan's idea. The FOX to 100.5, and WKRD to 93.1.
Too late to edit my original post. I just noticed my spelling error. It should be there, not their.

Agree about your 105.1 point. WLRS was decent competition to the FOX back in those days, and 105.1 had a good sound as well as a good morning show.

Zero chance iHeartMedia put sports on 93.1. They don't even care about 790. If, and BIG if, The Fox goes to 100.5, 93.1 will become 93.1 The Beat with The Breakfast Club in the mornings.

WOW! The last songs played on the FOX were: "Woman from Tokyo" from Deep Purple, "Finish what ya started" by VH, and "Magic Power" by Triumph. Something is going on.

They are getting really interesting with their playlist, and I love it... it is a great mix of newer rock and some classic rock, and they're definitely not just skimming the hits. The Fox has been on my presets for quite a while, but they've never liked them quite as much as I do now. One thing they would need to make sure to do is to be able to differentiate themselves from QMF if they want to do this, because they certainly don't want to divide their own audience. Perhaps QMF should focus on the 70s/80s/early 90s hits (as they already do for) while The Fox could focus on some of the deeper tracks as well as the new stuff.

Yeah, right now they are reminding me of the FOX from 93 when they first signed on. I haven't listened this much to them in years.

I doubt the over-the-air FOX played those songs. If you go on their website and look at the last songs played it is the iheart app version of the FOX, NOT the regular radio version. QMF is the same way. From 12 am to 5 am, the iheart app versions of these stations are completely different. In my opinion, a lot more interesting. WQMF's and The Fox's websites have the playlists of the last weeks worth of songs from 1-600+. But unless you listened to those stations using the iheart app, you probably would not have heard half of those songs. WQMF has songs from INXS, Pretenders, Grateful Dead, Elvis Costello, and many more, but unfortunately those only get played on the iheart app version.

Hey Dan76, did you actually hear these songs or did you see them posted on "last songs played?" I'm not doubting you, but whenever I listen to the Fox, I don't hear this stuff. I'm not sure we even played Magic Power back in the day. More than likely, this is just more Premium Choice tweaking by Clear Channel (sorry, I refuse to say iHeart Media). They may have taken more control of what's being heard on the Fox. I would love it if they moved back to 100.5. But the Fox is the only thing that's really ever worked at 93.1. I think She93.1 would have worked if they wouldn't have pulled the plug on it so early, but that was a political move.

I just saw them on the "last songs played" so you are probably right. Triumph doesn't really fit the format at all these days. I do remember Buzz Casey playing it a few times back in the good ol days. The most "classic" songs I've heard for myself are "Over the Hills and Far Away", and "Comfortably Numb"
Still, they sound better then they have in years overall.

I also have to wonder why the FOX has put the new AC/DC in rotation, but QMF has only played it a hand full of times. It's a cool tune that fits both stations' formats pretty well.

If you listen to FOX or QMF after 12 am, the over-the-air songs are different than the iheartradio app. That is why QMF lists over 600 songs on their past week's playlist. Too bad the regular stations are not as interesting as their iheart app stations. QMF lists Jackson Browne, INXS, Elvis Costello, the Pretenders, "stand" by REM etc.

While it is certainly true that The Fox is the only thing that has ever really worked at 93.1, it is also about the only thing that has ever really worked at 100.5 as well. Louie and Gen-X both had some steam when they started out, but ultimately neither one worked (although I'm still a little surprised that Louie didn't work at 100.5, their numbers were not bad all until their last quarter in spring 2009).

But I think they're going to try My FM for a little bit longer at 100.5, at least through the end of the quarter. In the past few days, I've been seeing a lot of commercials for "My FM" on TV, something that they weren't doing (as far as I can tell) until this week. It looks like instead of just ditching the failed format, they're going to try to make it work. I can't say that I see much of a chance for success, but they'd might as well try.
