October Ratings

http://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb011

WXYT with a big jump, courtesy of the Tigers, stays in first, but WMXD slid past WOMC for the #2 slot. WWJ steady at a 6 share for #4, and WJR, with a slight jump rounds out the top 5. Two AM's in the Top 5, but that's a dead frequency spectrum, right?

WYCD, not long removed from being #1, had a slight drop again and is at #8. NASH-FM saw a large drop to a 1.8 share. 105.1 is at a 1.2, and that's with ESPN coverage of the playoffs.

Rough month for Country Music in the D.

I was surprised about WWJ and WJR rounding out the top five. Programming, programming.... I do miss the day when everyone showed up in the "beauty pageant".
I'd like to see if Salems translator has helped out their talk product. Curious on the Urban Gospel AM front. What about WMUZ?
Oh well.

Too bad All Access didn't include Detroit in the list of money demo ratings. We can be sure, that 'J and 'JR were out of the running where it counts. And those stations you say dropped, are those most likely to win the money demos.

Unfortunately, you didn't even look at cume, where 955 rules. Or at sales revenue.

And let's be clear. Any benefit from the Tigers came from talk about the Tigers, not Tiger broadcasts.

Fred, PPM measures cume, which is what the rankings were based upon.

I don't have access to the money demo data. I agree, that information means much to the stations that utilize it, but I'm not going to purchase it solely to discuss on a message board.

I, too, jry, would like to know the impact on WDTK because of both the translator and the pickup of Hannity. Since WJR is the one who counter-programs WDTK so closely and is doing so well, it could be inferred that WDTK isn't doing so great. Hard to tell. WJR may be pumped up because of the election which would also benefit WDTK. When they did subscribe, pre-Hannity, I think they pulled about a 1.5. I would think with the addition of Hannity and the Translator both AM1400 and 92.7 are pulling in a 2.0, but who knows?

They do seem to be making an effort to target local ad revenue with the Wayne State and Catholic League High School games. Maybe if you meet with someone from Salem, you could query how that's going?

Any new news on the 910 (WFDF) sale?

Yes, it does, but the rankings you posted were based on AQH share (average quarter hour share).

And, c'mon. Salem is not a factor in Detroit or any other market. A translator will not change that. The crazies like to be stirred up; they want bloody red meat. Salem does not deliver that.

No, the PPM measures the cume (reach) and the time spent listening of each station. From those two data sets, we get share, AQH persons and rating. The rankers published each month are based on share. Some rankers show cume as well, but since radio is bought mostly based on share (or the equivalent, which is AQH persons), cume is not what we rank on.

Cume is only a sales metric when doing reach and frequency as it does not measure how many people on average listen to each commercial.

As to revenue, the ranker for 2013 goes like... WWJ, WJR, WOMC, WDVD, WYCD, WRIF, WMXD, WJLB, WKQI and WNIC. Yes, WXYT was not in the top 10 last year, but looking at its 2014 numbers, it is likely to be there for 2014.

Thats interesting as revenue on Sports Talk usually outperforms its ratings.
