ABC News Takes Over The View

Because of slipping ratings, ABC News is taking over. Also, it was noted that there was a logistics benefit with ABC Daytime being based in the West coast, but The View and ABCNews in New York. What changes do you think they'll make? Will it integrate more take on more news approach or more guest-costs replacing in? Amy Robach of GMA does guest co-anchor a lot on The View.

I think the current co-anchors being of an older age might be a downside in the demographics, and Rosie O' isn't popular with everyone. I suppose they can overhaul it again with some new co-hosts, but it likely runs risk of every time. I'd bet also if it wasn't for Kelly&Michael being live at 9, ABC would prefer expanding GMA. I think Kelly&Michael could move to 10am and that show wouldn't take a hit. Tyra* and Rachael would take either 11 or 3pm.

*ABC syndicated has signed Tyra Banks to have another daytime show. In Philly and likely other markets, that could mean Queen Latifah's show going up right against Tyra Bank's show at 3pm, and both might have similar pull. Or, If it's slotted in the morning (at 10am), it'd go up against Wendy Williams, but maybe Tyra would replace The View's 11am slot, and Rachael moved to afternoons (at 3pm) next year.

Hmm. ABC always made a big deal that Good Morning America was not run by ABC News, while the morning shows at NBC and CBS are.

If you've watched Nightline lately, it's obvious that ABC News isn't the place where Ted Koppel once worked. I imagine that will convey as well to The View. It wouldn't totally shock me if the show dealt with politics more.
 
Wait a minute, ABC News does produce GMA and ABC News personnel are used as air talent (or have been since David Hartman and Nancy Dussault left).
 
The only reason The View was popular and had ratings was because of Barbara Walters. She was the only credible person on the show. I always assumed that it was a part of the news division because of her. Does Walters still have any executive say in the running of the show?

Not any more. She was respected, and the hosts on the show respected her. She created this show and it really reflected a lot of her values. Now that she's gone, it needs someone like her to run it.

Diane Sawyer might be that person. She might bring some respect and stability to it, and it would be a real plum for Diane to walk into a heritage show and a heritage role. It certainly would be better than trying to start a new show herself. But if they're going towards news/talk with this crew, it will be chaos, and the downward spiral will continue.

From what little I have watched of The View, I have always thought it was a train wreck. I sometimes think even Barbara felt ashamed to be on it. With her gone I don't know what they expected the show to turn into. Especially given the panel they have.
