End Of Year Changes.?

Any changes on the Buffalo horizon?
Will moribund stations like JACK and Alt. Buffalo be put of their misery?
Will Cumulus end its Rock logjam and join the Country fray?

WBFO ownership has received some criticism on this board.
Still, if they could get one more FM signal--
An Americana or AAA format would be worth supporting...

Jack doesn't cost much to run, and is likely making money. It's not a complete waste of a big signal, but I doubt that Townsquare will invest what it would cost to do better.

Alt. Buffalo is likely to get another year to find an audience simply because Entercom hasn't got a better idea. Helping out WGR's night-time signal would be the best idea, but they've rejected that.

Cumulus is also unlikely to upset the rock apple cart. Their stations are doing well enough that a switch of any of their signals to country is unlikely to produce better results. The only thing that's likely to provoke a realignment is if Norton finally pulls the plug, and they have to decide that Shredd and Ragan is the morning show of the future for rock radio in Buffalo. They could update 97-Rock and drop "The Edge", hoping that rock radio listeners from both ends of the age spectrum would follow Shredd and Ragan to 97-Rock, and going with "Nash" on 103.3. That may be the future, but I doubt that the time is here yet.

I don't see WNYPB investing further in radio. They're interested in NPR all the way, not music formats. They've grudgingly kept the Blues on the weekends, relegating it to evenings, only because there was a voluble outcry when WNYPB took over.

Would that be the same commitment that the WBEN 107.7 simulcast had?
The news simulcast failed and Alternative Buffalo has averaged a 1.2 rating.

By comparison, The Lake format gave them 3 and 4 shares during its run.
The current format will never come close to that.

Things change & change again no matter what a Corporate
Press release states...

No difference. Formats come and go in every market.
If a 1 share was the goal, then they nailed it.
They may stubbornly stick with it for a while, but the evidence
Doesn't suggest that the ratings will change...

The simulcast wasn't local? It was as local as the AM, obviously.

Wow, I didn't think I had to explain this, but OK.

WBEN didn't have to hire a complete staff for the simulcast, and they didn't have to fire them all when it ended. They still had their jobs when the simulcast ended. Understand?

True, all the simulcast required was a flip of a switch.
That's not the point.

Entercom once had Oldies on KB and The Lake on 107.7.
Those formats combined for about a 7 share in the market.
Now those SAME 2 signals as (Sports and Alternative) get less
than a 2 share.

"Corporate Commitment" is a hollow concept.
Formats and staff are disposable chess pieces...

Star has gone to only a couple of 80s songs in the rotation in the past few months. Mix is slowly inching toward a full tilt Hot AC with a heavy TOP 40 lean. This battle will definetly be the one to watch this year, Obviously both can't win. I would almost say that by the end of 2015 Mix could be a top 40 station going head to head with KISS! The thing that really messes with this is Rob Lucas who is having throat issues, it could end up he may never return to the air if his throat never heals right. This would be a huge blow to Star.

So, 2Day FM is still invisible in Buffalo? Even with the shut down of Ed FM, and the merge of two frequencies into one station? (101.1 and 101.5 FM)
I mean, I know Buffalo is not their target market anyway, but it sure sounded like some creative way to compete with Kiss! More power, serving more people-two stations now one... (and all that...)
