Chespirito passes away at 85

Univision is broadcasting Chespirito's funeral live. (I'm surprised they're holding the funeral just 2 days after his death). It's coming from a stadium down in Mexico. The stadium is packed with fans. Some wearing shirts with the "CH" in a heart on it. Others are holding "Ear Flap" hats. While Univision is airing the funeral, their sister network UniMas is airing episodes of El Chavo del Ocho. Underneath the "En Vivo" logo in the upper left corner of the screen is "#graciaschespirito".

Burial within two or at most three days of death is fairly customary where I have lived or worked in Latin America (Mexico, Puerto Rico, Perú, Ecuador, Argentina, etc). I don't know exactly why, but always thought it came from the need caused by the tropical climate in the past.

El Chavo Del Ocho and Chapulin Colorado were my favorites. Watch many shows as a kid, when visiting Peru in 1978. The whole cast is funny. From El Profesor (ta ta ta ), Kiko, Doña Florinda and Don Barriga, to La Chilindrina, Don Ramon, Noño y La Bruja de 71!

Thankfully the re-runs continue on Univision and Galavision

We'll miss El Chavo!! Rest in Peace!
