WFDU Applies for Signal Upgrade

They want to go from this to that.

Can anyone tell me why they (the subject, F.D.U.) have never been able to get together with them (the object, N.Y.U.) and share a single transmission complex that would give both stations better coverage than either has ever had?

I believe they could transmit with an equivalent signal of 20KW at 500ft from the location of the United Nations building.

I don't know the specifics, but as someone who was part of a time-share arrangement with another educational station, I can tell you it's a PITA, if you know what I mean. Management & staffing of a college station is tough enough without throwing in a curve ball.

It's certainly an interesting move, coming at a time when a bunch of colleges are selling their radio stations. Makes me think there's a reason why they're doing this.

I dont think any US broadcast stations can be licensed to the UN building as it is declared sovereign territory under the UN Charter and is not US territory (I could be wrong....but....)...Also this "increase" is just a SW push of WFDU's signal. Better toward Hyde Park and Long Beach..but thats it..

As for sharing? Good luck...Noone wants to share anymore unless forced

Actually if you compare the maps it looks like the main push is toward the S/SE, which I assume is intended to put a stronger signal into Manhattan, Queens & Brooklyn.

Once again, it begs the question: Why are they doing this? Their campus is in the western half of the contour. Why do they wish to reach three boroughs of NYC, if not to perhaps make the frequency more attractive to a potential buyer?

To increase coverage for listeners there and maybe ask for more donations???

Depending on their format, the listeners there may be wanting better coverage..or the potential buyers you mentioned??

Only they know for sure..

If FDU plans to sell, I hope NYU would be first in line to buy so we can finally put this time sharing to rest.

There are a lot of other potential bidders for a non-com property in NYC with far bigger budgets than NYU.

Oh Gawd....Not another stinkin' K-Love station....
