AM Frequency Of The Week - 620 kHz

In the Portland area it is KPOJ 24/7 with Fox Sports. (aka Rip City Radio).

Years ago when KGW used to sign off at 1 AM until 5 AM I logged KTAR Phoenix, CKCK Regina,SK and CJCI Prince George, BC.

In the near north Chicago suburbs it's all WTMJ strong day & a bit weaker at night, but still dominant. At night I have heard a weak station or two underneath but I've not been able to identify. In the 60s I was able to log WSUN St Petersburg, Fl when WTMJ was off for maintenance.

A bit of fizz, inaubible here in the day.

At night here so far, WSKQ Newark (now WSNR) ........ WHEN Syracuse (May 1994) ....... and it was 7 months later that we got to enjoy our favorite Communist programming via the charming Radio Rebelde.

Hey -- as long as ♫ Castro says: 'I LIKE 'em! Let's string up some more'♫ I'll continue counting them as logged stations.

@ Radio Man 148 :
Yes about that WSUN signal. Back in the 60's, when local WVNJ signed off overnight, WSUN, by default or not, was often the only thing on 620. We'd get them faithfully up on Long Island, even though that older nighttime pattern of theirs wasn't sending much our way. For a lot of DXers in the north, WSUN might have been one of the scarce few available Florida catches for a while -- even the first FL log.

Houston - daytime XEGH, nighttime primarily KMKI

Far northwest suburbs of Chicago....

Days: WTMJ very good....even though most of the 50kw is aimed away from me.

Night: WTMJ always reliably on top and dominating, but very noticeably weaker than day pattern. 10kw from about 36 miles away, but less than 1kw equiv of that is going in my direction. So listening to nighttime Green Bay Packer games can be a little problematic sometimes. CKRM (ex CKCK) is usually the main pest underneath and quite listenable with WTMJ nulled. I've snagged WJDX a few times around sunset before they powered down and went to night pattern. WDNC has made it here a couple of times. But I've never heard WSUN/WDAE.

620 daytime is KPOJ Portland with Fox Sports.
Sunset usually KPOJ, KWAL Wallace, ID and sometimes CKRM Regina SK (Country)
Nights - KPOJ, CKRM, KIGS Hanford, CA (with Arabic format right now, ex NBC Sports) and maybe others. Have caught KTAR Phoenix once here.

You keep hitting my locals. One time top 40, now religious WRJZ, which I've heard as far north as...... Vermillion, Ohio

Back in Ohio, nothing much during the day but WTVN IBOC, nothing immediately comes to mind at night when we lost WTVN

From Tampa, it's WDAE day and night.

Radioman, it's great to hear the old WSUN made it that far.

Same with you, Steve!

On my visits back home to south Jersey in the 80's, I would listen for WSUN at night but the station from north Jersey dominated the frequency and I think they were on full time by then.

Located in W. Washington.

At night, mostly KPOJ Portland with Fox Sports. KWAL Wallace ID often comes in from the east with country and lots of local ads. I have one logging of CKRM, Regina SK.

Lately I've been hearing a lot of Hindustani movie music and South Asian music from the south. Never hear an ID though.

Apparently it's KIGS Hanford California, but they don't have a website or enough online info for me to ID the station just from the South Asian format.

WTMJ can be clearly heard in Dallas at night, if you can null local KMKI. The nighttime null of KMKI protected WTMJ is so good, that if you drive into it you can hear WTMJ without a trace of KMKI. This happened on multiple occasions out in Parker, TX.

There is a powerline over the Central Expressway in Richardson. If you get caught in morning traffic gridlock - you can hear KTAR under that powerline instead of KMKI. This happened more than once.

KMKI puts a splendid daytime signal into Lubbock, TX. It can be heard almost static free. One time I took a small loop and a GE Superadio 3 on a trip to White's City. The waterpark water is way too cold at the hotel, so I did some DX instead. KMKI beats out KTAR daytime. KMKI was about the only DFW station I could get that far west - WBAP was the other. Usual monster signal on 570 was covered by a closer 570. No trace of 660.

I've heard WRJZ to within sight of the WTVN towers coming north into Columbus at night up U.S. 23. It's not at all loud, but if you're in one of WTVN's many nulls at night east, west or south of town, Knoxville can be heard.

Days, usually nothing, however the occasional day where a weak WTUV/Louisville is heard. As would be expected, as I travel west up I-74, the WTUV signal improves.

Nights, it's several stations, with WRJZ/Knoxville and WTUV being the most frequent.

In that magical time between day and evening when wolves prepare prepare to howl at the moon, I've heard now silent WJHX/Lexington AL, plus WWNR/Beckley WV & WTMJ Milwaukee. I think WJDX & WDNC as well.

I've always wondered if maybe WDAE could be heard in the daytime anywhere along the Texas coast.

I don't recall now if anyone has ever attempted it.

I tried it back in 2009 from Galveston, but had no success with any Florida station. I admit I picked the wrong time. It was busy as heck on Memorial Day *and* it was hardly the best time of the year to DX along the Gulf Coast.

620 am

In 1995, I pulled in 620 between Houston and Beaumont. It was around 10 AM Central. I can't remember if they were WDAE by then or the WSUN calls were still parked on 620.

I have tried recently and 620 from Reynosa has been the only occupant. Not sure if 1995 reception was a fluke or Pre XEGH.

Considering the signal I get from XEGH, I doubt it. The closer you get to Mexico down the coast, the stronger it probably is. There might be a possibility of nulling it, though. I have no idea why such a low power Mexican station gets out so well, but it does!

In east central Iowa, daytime, WTMJ Milwaukee. Nighttime, a mix -- usually CKRM Regina, SK. Have also heard WJDX Jackson, MS, WRJZ Knoxville, TN. Don't think I have ever heard WTMJ at night here, but have heard them elsewhere in the region at night.

When I lived in the Quad Cities (of Illinois and Iowa) in the mid -70s, WTMJ was a regular nighttime catch. Also audible, but weak, during the day. This was when they were at 5kw ND day/directional at night.
