Ha ha ha..... 102.5 is TANKING... and Bubba hasn't even hit the air again yet. Notable is how large the gap is getting between WDUV and everyone else. Like I said in another thread, there was no reason to go wall to wall Christmas music for a month. Based on their numbers the last 6 months, they should easily top a 15 in the holiday period.

Wow, yeah 102.5 trending down. Bad decisions, much? Thunder up slightly to a 2 with the add of 99.1 it would seem.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an increase at WHFS-FM though (the stunting didn't start until the very end of this book, so we won't know until the next one). Could it be that "Santa-stunting" actually pulled better numbers than the previous format?

At the very least, it created some buzz for the frequency.

I knew this would happen. The Bone is painful to listen to. Cowhead is very talented and I enjoyed him in the afternoon, but he just doesn't work in the morning, and his co-hosts add nothing to the show. Everyone let their spite for Bubba outweigh the reality that he is still very popular for whatever reason. There were a lot of listeners who changed their presets after the big shakeup. I stopped listening after the swap, I have only tuned in to listen to my friend Avocado Rocker a couple of times. The shows are insulting to my intelligence, and the promos they run for Cowhead... I don't know who is writing them, and I don't know who is producing them, but they are absolutely tasteless. I consider myself into dark humor, and dirty jokes, but the crap that spews out of that transmitter makes me ill. Making fun of people who just died and mentally challenged people... I just can't get down with that. Can't wait for the 98.7/102.5 war, this will be fun.

Interesting to me that Cox has 4 of the top 8 stations in the market, and that WDUV is so dominant in the ratings with their soft AC, "keep it simple" format.

Going to get very interesting in Tampa Bay with the return of BTLS. Bubba=ratings. What many people fail to take in to consideration is ratings don't always equal revenue. Radio is a business and the audience that BTLS attracts is not very desirable for a majority of advertisers. The strip clubs, beer companies and a car dealer that he is friends with will always be there, but the reason the BTLS show doesn't have staying power is the show is simply a poor return on investment. Beasley has been successful with him on WRXK, but Tampa is not Ft. Myers. BTLS will probably make a splash on whatever station he ends up on (98.7, 104.7 or 99.5) but in the end, Beasley will probably lose money on his show, despite the decent ratings he will likely get.

In the end, Cox wins mornings and afternoons because 102.5 simply attracts a more desirable audience than the jobbers/dirt rockers (AKA Bubba Army) that will always follow BTLS.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually think Bubba's show is a little bit classier and more mature than what 102.5 has become. All of the shows on the Bone are imitating Bubba's show, or more specifically, they're imitating Stern. And since Bubba is also imitating Stern, they sound the same. On the few occasions that I've heard the Billy Madison show, it sounds like Bud Dickman from the Phil Hendrie Show mashed up with a couple of dumb guys imitating BTLS. I am not a gigantic fan of Bubba's shtick these days but I think he does a better job of it than some guys from Texas. Cowhead is very talented, but it sounds obvious to me that he's trying to pander to former Bubba listeners and it's not working. I've never understood the appeal of listening to the biker guy who almost killed a woman and a dog, and I really don't understand why anyone would want to listen to Drew Garabo. It's like he wants to be Bob Lassiter and insult all of his listeners, except he's nowhere near as smart or sophisticated as Bob was. I underestimated the reason and intellect of the remaining radio listening audience, I really though the Bone would continue to perform well, I think they deserve to drop a few points for the crap they've been airing.

I think Bubba will serve Beasley well in the short term, if nothing else. He will draw attention to their new station(s), and I'm confident that he'll be bringing in more $ than anything that was on "The Fan".

Exactly coolaid213..... I'm not a Bubba fan by any means, but he knows his audience and I think his show as actually "matured" ever so slightly. He's head and shoulders above the rest of the clowns on 102.5. The guys from San Antonio are a complete waste or air time in Tampa Bay, Burke has NO business being on the radio, and you're totally right about Garabo. He thinks he's clever and quick witted but he's not. He came through the Jim Phillips ranks in Orlando and I would have thought he would have matured into a classier host but it almost seems he's gone backwards since his days at Real Radio, O-Rock, and 97X. I think he was OK at 97 and probably should have been left there to run a typical morning show with music and not non-stop hot talk. I really think The Bone is in trouble. Calta is a great talent but cannot carry the station alone.

Coolaid123, I completely agree that the return of Bubba's show will draw attention to whatever station he ends up on and while it may bring bigger numbers than anything The Fan ever put up, I still don't think his show is going to put Beasley in the black. I'm not going to disagree with you about Billy Madison and Burke though. Those two shows are a waste of my time, so I only hear them briefly to be certain that they are terrible. The cume is smaller in those dayparts and the shows are likely very cheap, so who cares what they put on from 10-3.

When Bubba's new multi-million dollar deal with Beasley is up, he'll be gone and if iHeart radio still exists at 4002 Gandy, he'll probably end up back there.

Drew has grown his audience nicely since coming over from 97X, the addition of Seth is a good one, but it's a show that you either get or you don't get. You either love the fact that he treats the morons that call like the morons that they are or you hate it. If you're not in on the joke, chances are you won't ever get him. I think he's incredibly smart, talented and funny, but I get what he does and I think it's entertaining.

Bubba's entertaining show ended when Brent left and the final nail in the coffin was when Spice had finally had enough. If it weren't for Manson/Ned, there wouldn't be a show. Think about this. Is Bubba's show funny if you know the Manson/Ned secret?

I have a feeling Bubba's new deal isn't all that sweet, I think he and everyone else knows he's not worth as much as he once was, but I believe he is still profitable and will be a net positive for Beasley. I'm pretty sure at this point, Bubba would take a horrible offer just to get back on and attack Cowhead, et. al.

I thought the same thing about Billy and Burke, I am pretty sure they get both for almost free.

As for Drew, I totally "get" the show. I got Bob Lassiter, I got Phil Hendrie, I got Neil Rogers, and so on. Drew is good at what he does, but I disagree with your premise. I don't think he just treats morons like morons. I think he often shouts down intelligent people and treats them like morons for merely having the nerve to call in and disagree with him. He is an anti-smoking nazi, and if you dare call in and question his asinine viewpoints like "people shouldn't be allowed to smoke outside", he will label you a homophobe and a moron and a racist and hang up on you. The guy is ridiculous, and sounds like he's not very fun at parties. Again, I get what he's doing, I just don't care for it. I gave him an honest try, because he's the only person on that station who truly sounds literate... but I just can't get down with the way he treats his listeners. It's not my style.

I've known that Ned was Manson and vice versa for approximately 16 years... I probably got my most enjoyment out of the show when he was on 98 Rock... I do agree that Brent and Spice were a big part of the show, but I listened to Bubba long before they joined the program. I am just excited that something is going to change, I can't emphasize that enough. I don't know what Beasley has up their sleeve, but I hope it's good.

I'd love to think that something is going to change, but the Bubba show that was on 102.5 when it was canceled will probably sound just like the show we'll hear on Monday. The Mike Calta show is simply more entertaining and fun to listen to than a bitter, angry little man who feels that the world is screwing him over. Is it the epitome of irony that Bubba has now become MJ?

You're probably right, but it'll be great if he pulls out all the stops and really rips into 102.5, I mean really that's what everyone is going to be tuning in for. After a couple of weeks that will get old and we'll see if he brings anything new to the table. I remember when he first started on the Bone I was listening on my way into work and was beaming from ear to ear, I loved every minute of the MJ bashing, this is the kind of stuff I live for. Pathetic? I am interested in seeing what they're going to do with the rest of the dayparts, and will any familiar names reappear on the show/station?

Anyway, Bubba is lucky to still have a gig, so I hope he doesn't turn this into a cryfest. I want to hear an all out assault on 102.5 and all of their awful (my opinion) programming.

And Bubba is MJ now? Yeah, I guess he is getting there, having that message board pulled down was a definite MJ move.
