WMOB at it Again?

Last night , 12/26, "test driving" my new ATS-505 that Santa (aka daughter and middle son) gave me, I came across WMOB roaring in like a local on 1360.

Didn't we have a whole conversation about this 2-3 years ago? Has anyone else heard this again recently or know what's going on?

Someone down there must think you need a bit of religion. :)

Earlier this week, while driving at sunset on the Kentucky side of Greater Cincinnati, I did hear a religious station duking it out with our local WSAI. I was dragged into the mall before I could get an I.D.

'Dragged into the mall' -- lol Gelp !

WMOB is logged here as far back as 3-23-13, and obviously via something other than their nighttime wattage. Nor was I the first to hear them. Someone aboard here had made mention .... and I tuned in one night to 1360 .... and voila!

I can think of only three markets where a similarly-formatted 1360 and a 1410 station went head to head :
Hartford CT's top fortyers WDRC 1360 and WPOP 1410
Pittsburgh's top fortyers WIXZ 1360 and KQV 1410
Mobile's reverent WMOB 1360 and WLVV 1410.

Any other markets, lol ?

I heard them one night recently while on the road in Illinois. They don't bother me at home due to the presence of a local on 1360. I say "bother" merely because I think they're greatly boosting their signal... not that I was hoping to hear anything other than hash on 1360.

Well they certainly had to be running more than 200 watts...LOL! Heard them again last night. Not quite as strong as previous, but almost. And comfortably on top. I've driven by their towers next to I-10 numerous times. In a swamp adjacent to Mobile Bay. Their daytime 9KW gets out quite well considering the lousy ground conductivity in the area. I'm sure the swamp and the salt water help matters, but that wouldn't affect skywave. IIRC they were widely heard around the time you logged them, then they stopped whatever it was that was going on at that time. Evidently, now they must be back at it, whatever it was.

Sidebar point....we sort of have a 1360 and 1410 as secondary competitors here in Northern Illinois. WLBK, De Kalb (1360) and WRMN, Elgin (1410). Frankly I doubt that they regard themselves as competitors, but their city grade contours overlap (assuming the red lines on R-L can be taken for "city grade"....which is probably a stretch).

They were coming in loud and clear here in Columbus, Ohio around 7:45 p.m. tonight. I wouldn't even have known except that I forgot to change one of my presets from a Christmas visit to Conneaut, Ohio, where 1360 is their local WWOW.

Huh. I too got a new radio from 'Santa' and even though I'm only about 20 air miles from WMOB's site, I haven't heard anything on several nights this Christmas season. Usually when they're on night power it's still a viable signal here.

May have to give them a try tonight here in Altamonte. Maybe the cc 2e can pick them up.
