Layoffs After Beasley Takeover

Beasley has now taken over the former CBS Charlotte stations, and unfortunately there were layoffs right before Christmas. I thought CBS did a good job with these stations, as WPEG and WSOC were often top rated, and WNKS performed well as a CHR, despite the loss of Ace and TJ. Without the CBS backing, I wonder if these stations will begin to decline in overall performance. CBS had better corporate clout for new music, and promoting local concerts with different artists depending upon the station. Not sure what changes Beasley may bring in the New Year.

As I stated, there were layoffs at the former CBS stations after the Beasley takeover. I understand that clearly, and was sorry to hear this for the employees involved. Especially right before Christmas. I realize Beasley was behind these layoffs, which often occurs when a new company takes over. But I do wonder what the future may hold for these Beasley stations going forward, and what changes may occur. Sorry if the thread title did not quite properly explain the situation. But reading further I think I stated it correctly, unless someone may have additional facts to elaborate.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, when new owners take over a station, they tend to move like tornadoes. They'll level some properties while keeping others intact but rarely leave anything quite the way they found it. Sometimes, the listeners notice the changes; other times, they're too far behind the scenes for the listeners to notice.

The ex-CBS Charlotte stations were successful. So, it's possible there won't be any programming changes. Only two of the stations involved in the deal were distressed, and Beasley blew up one of them just days after taking over while CBS is making more subtle changes at another.

I've edited the thread title. I removed 'CBS' from the title.
ContinuousWave, rather than calling the OP an idiot, why not report the thread and ask that we edit the title?

I wonder if they will make any changes to Kiss 95.1 to differentiate it from Channel 96.1? Both are similar sounding CHRs. Looks like one would go a bit more rhythmic.

Differentiation for the sake of differentiation is a terrible idea. While it's true Kiss and Channel are locked into a tight battle, Kiss is usually the highest cuming station in the cluster and bills extremely well. It also typically draws a much higher cume than Channel. So, despite their close shares, Kiss is clearly the preferred CHR, and cume is a sales tool while TSL, which plays a bigger factor in Channel's numbers, is not.

Also, keep in mind that Beasley already has an urban station and an urban AC. Moving Kiss into the rhythmic arena would likely alienate some of its existing audience and pull some audience from its sister stations. On top of that, Channel started as a rhythmic station called The Beat after it dumped oldies. It obviously didn't get the billing it wanted, though I seem to remember it got pretty good ratings.

Channel 96.1 overtook Kiss 95.1 in the ratings for a while, especially after the change with Ace and TJ. But I think 95.1 may have regained the CHR lead for now.

I'm a bit out of the action so let me ask which stations are considered distressed? What station did they blow up?

WHFS-FM "98.7 The Fan" in Tampa was doing poorly and got blown up within three days of Beasley taking over.

Wired 96.5 in Philly has also been performing poorly, but CBS seems to be taking a slower approach with more subtle changes. The talk of KYW to FM proved to be speculation.

Where did all the Kiss DJs go? Lol. The O-Shos is the only one standing. Man, I just moved from Charlotte and all of the dJs were there!
