Who will flip formats in 2015?

I make no accusations here, for I am just asking who do you think will change in the new year?

Who's the first to flip formats do you think?

Comment!

96.5 FM will change formats for sure. As for 1210 AM, who knows.

We'll see. CBS can't keep a failing format on the air forever IMO.

As long as it makes money and there are no more viable alternatives, it will stay with what it is doing.

The key word is "forever.." In this context, it has no real meaning. Nothing lasts forever in the literal sense, but as noted, 1210 remains on the positive side of the ledger, and no practical, viable alternative exists on the horizon. So "forever?" Of course not. But "for the forseeable future," they can and will stick with it.

I think WOGL will flip to a jammin oldies format playing nothing but 70s and 80s dance and rhythm music(No more Hotel California, Brown Eyed Girl or 60s motown) and Ben-FM will become a full flegged classic hot hits stations like WCAU-FM was in the 80s(with their jingles). I also think radio 104.5 will change to Sunny 104.5 and will play the same music they played in the early to mid 2000s with a hint of newer music. 106.1 will change back to smooth jazz :D

In order to be in the black, they will need to drop local-live air talent. Too much overhead currently for declining revenue.

At some point, sure. Seems like they're doing fine right now though.

And you know their current P&L numbers how?

It will probably seem like they are doing fine right up to when heads roll (or they flip or the station is sold to some Bible bangers).

The airstaff salaries are only a part of a station's expenses. At most stations, sales costs are a considerably larger expense.

The thing about 1210 WPHT is that we don't know how they are doing in the key demos and revenue. That will tell the story on whether CBS keeps the format or not.

Jul, WPHT has been billing in the $6 million to low- $7 million range for the last five years. While we do not have the M-K data for 2014 yet, there is no reason to believe it does not continue to bill in that range. And at that level, it is likely to be nicely profitable.

All of which is why it is not going to change significantly.

I think I better do myself a big favor in not listening or talk about the station anymore, since they will not change formats as it appears, right now according to the info you just gave me.

Aw, check off the box for me liking like Fred Leonard's stuff. I envision the guy as a brusque Mike Ditka with earphones.
Well, that might be redundant.

This is half prognostication/half-wish.
I'd like to listen to WRTI playing jazz all day. First, I'm not a classical fan -- and the word was that WRTI was starting to pare down its library anyway to the best 'testing' classical songs, at least during their fundraising. They have two audible translators up this way, and I'd much rather be painting an outside porch and putting up a ceiling listening to jazz instead of to some operette.

Second, if I'm not mistaken, WRTI used to have better ratings in their all-Jazz days than subsequently.

Thirdly, Bob Craig is a terrific listen.

The bigger question should be, is WRTI making more money via Classical listeners or Jazz listeners? My guess is, WRTI's financial situation has improved a lot since they added Classical to their format.

I like both Jazz and Classical, sadly the Philly metro doesn't seem able to support two separate stations.
