Two NBC stations for Jackson TN?

Also, will the deals with Dish and DirecTV cause them to drop WMC? I don't really like that idea.

I doubt that will happen with Charter. When WBBJ added CBS, CBS's from Nashville and Memphis were not dropped.

My cable has NBC from Nashville, Memphis and Paducah. WSMV and WMC are in HD and WSMV and WPSD give weather information for my county. WNBJ will have no local news and I read where a guy associated with the station said he doesn't know if it ever will or not. And I'm pretty sure it will not be in HD. To sum up, I do not want WNBJ to be the only NBC affiliate on cable. It's a Big Three version of the WBJK CW station: no local anything, just network and syndicated programming.

oh nice...from the NBC 39 facebook 10/16

Hey NBC 39 Fans, our brand new antenna got damaged on delivery to us in Jackson and we are having to replace it with a new one which has caused an unforeseen delay in getting a reliable over the air signal to you. We are working diligently to get this accomplished as fast as we can. We are on the air, but the signal from the damaged antenna is not reliable. We are on Dish and will be on JEA on November 3 and Direct TV soon.

So right now they are just on Dish only

yes and no
With Dish they can only give you the NBC from Jackson as they can only import a station (WMC) if there is no affiliate in the market
Directv has the option of significantly viewed. 2 counties in the Jackson DMA can get Memphis locals too. Jackson proper will lose WMC
Chester and Gibson counties get BOTH Jackson and Memphis locals

I've seen on their Facebook page that they're coming to DirecTV soon, but it hasn't happened yet. There still hasn't been any word on if or when they'll be on Charter cable, which looks to me like they should have been trying to get on first since it would have given them the most coverage. I understand the OTA setback, but I don't understand why they aren't on Charter yet, unless Charter is making it harder to get on there.

I'm on Charter so this hopefully shouldn't be a problem.

usually with cable they will keep both unless the new NBC has some MAJOR pull
they (WNBJ) can ask for syndex which would black out any NBC programming on at the same time but even that is rare now

WBBJ has had a deal with Charter and probably JEA as well to be the only ABC station on the system ever since I moved to the Jackson area in 1999. I'm surprised they don't try to keep WREG in Memphis out since they put CBS on 7.3 other than there would probably be a major viewer backlash if they tried to do that. WJKT has a deal to keep Fox programming from WHBQ in Memphis out, although sometimes it slips through anyway, especially on weekends. Somehow I won't be surprised if WNBJ tries to keep NBC programming from WMC off on Charter or JEA, but I hope they won't be able to do that.

sidenote...I heard that WJKT added BounceTV as a subchannel.

So far at least it isn't on. I live two miles away from WJKT's tower and rescanned on OTA, but it isn't on yet. I still don't understand why WJKT doesn't try to get Me TV away from WBBJ, unless they're locked into a contract.

I tried scanning again and for some reason 16.2 is still not coming in. That's really odd because I'm getting a great signal on 16.1, unless for some odd reason it's overloading my antenna which is supposed to be pretty decent and I have set up in a clear line to WJKT's tower. I'm not doubting you, but I think I need to do some more experimenting with my antenna and my TV.

As of today WNBJ-LD should be on JEA. This brings them to on Dish and JEA. Direct TV coming soon, and still trying to get on Charter. Still no reliable OTA signal yet. Anyway, any luck on 16.2.

WNBJ started on JEA cable on channel 4 today. They also said on their Facebook page that the OTA antenna is being installed and they're making adjustments to the transmitter and will be on OTA soon. STILL nothing on Charter. I hope being on JEA now will put more pressure on Charter to add it.

Also, I still haven't been able to get Bounce yet on WJKT. I've tried several times at home, which is about 2 miles away from their tower, and also on a TV in an area where I work. I'm getting a great signal on 16.1 but still nothing on 16.2.

Quote from WNBJ's Facebook Page: You should see us on 39.1 over-the-air on your antenna. We are still fine tuning the antenna and transmitter to maximize our power and reach.

local programming

According to wnbj Facebook page they are premiering a locally produced show on January 3 following Saturday Night live. Called Exit82 and features local musical talent in concert and with interviews.

Update: WNBJ still hasn't started up on DirecTV yet, and according to their Facebook page negotiations with Charter are going very slow. They've started a campaign asking viewers to call Charter and let them know that they want WNBJ. When I asked Charter about it they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about, but that they would register my comment.

It looks like to me that Charter should have been the very first carrier that WNBJ tried to get online with. Instead it's turning out that only viewers of JEA and Dish and the very few who can actually get it on OTA are getting it. DirecTV is supposedly coming but Charter is going nowhere. :(

Directv doesnt even have the channel uplinked yet which means they probably are trying to grab it OTA and not via other means (fibre)

If they're really depending on OTA good luck unless they have some kind of set up within a mile or two of the tower. From what I've seen on WNBJ's Facebook page there are people who live in Jackson and can't pick it up OTA. I've tried to pick it up from where I work on the Northeast side of Jackson and can't get it, but then I don't have a good antenna on the TV.

I'm beginning to think that I've been blocked from WNBJ's Facebook page. All the comments I've made since I discovered them have been removed and I can no longer post comments. I've logged off and logged back on and it didn't help.

Most of my comments were on asking when they would be picked up by Charter, which I usually got a "We're working on it" response if there was one. I was always civil in my comments, but I did get more pointed in my questions of why aren't they trying to work things out with Charter as time went on. My most pointed comment was a couple of days back when I made the comment that I couldn't get them because of their low power and a lot of other people were having the same problem, and asked if they could PLEASE work something out with Charter. But again I was still civil in my comments. Since then it appears all my posts are gone, and I also noticed that another comment someone had made about being disappointed in their low powered signal that I responded to saying that this was why WNBJ needs to be on Charter disappeared as well. In looking through the page almost all the posts asking about Charter are gone. There was one time I asked about how things were going with Charter and I got a response that it wasn't going too well, but even that's gone now.

I'm beginning to think that WNBJ won't be on Charter any time soon and they're trying to act now like they don't exist or they don't want to make a deal with Charter themselves. But blocking me and others who want WNBJ on Charter isn't going to make it go away. Yet they still try to act on Facebook like they're a high power station that will reach all of West TN. People who live in Jackson and Madison County along with other areas where it's obvious are too far out have commented that they can't pick them up. They need to be honest and quit making themselves to be a higher power station than they actually are. I knew that my only chance to get them was on cable, but they apparently aren't making any more effort to get on Charter.

IF WNBJ's owners really want to increase their coverage they need to make a deal with an existing higher power station (Probably WJKT Fox 16) to carry them on a subchannel, and make a deal to get on Charter since they're the major cable system in the area. I don't know if they've even thought making a deal with WJKT, but they've apparently given up or were doing nothing to begin with to make a deal with Charter.

As it stands now WNBJ is just a low power station with very little or no coverage outside Jackson and Madison County. JEA and Dish only cover Madison County and maybe another surrounding county or two. They're a big disappointment to a lot of people who were hoping for more. I'd like to see someone from WNBJ respond to this but I doubt if it will happen. :(
