'Gilmore Girls' Star Edward Herrmann Dies at 71

No, he's best know for playing FDR - most recently in Ken Burns' documentary series "The Roosevelts: An Intimate History." Also in two bio pics and in "Annie." Among other notable roles, he was a member of Hart's study group in "The Paper Chase," Father Joseph McCabe, the founder of St. Eligius Hospital in "St. Elsewhere," Fred Friendly in "Murrow." He has 130 acting credits and 63 credits as a narrator.

Maybe the press agent for the Gilmore Girls remembers Hermann for that insipid show. I didn't even know he was on it, since I never saw any reason to want to watch that show. But, Hermann's credit list on IMDB is one of the most impressive out there. He has worked on specials, in more than a few series, and in films. His voice-over work as a narrator on documentaries alone would have made him memorable.

It's sad that given his enormous body of high quality work, in both comedies and dramas, in fiction and non-fiction, and on stage and screen, he should be linked with Gilmore Girls. Of all the things to be remembered for! That's as bad as posting "'Herman Munster' Replacement Edward Herrmann Dies at 71".

BTW, though he was nominated for an Emmy for both his work as FDR as well as Gilmore Girls, he didn't win. He did, however, win a well deserved Tony in 1976.

If you're going to rush to be the first to launch another cut & paste thread, you might at least take the time to do some simple fact checking.

It's his most recent and well-known show. Barely anybody knows about the existence of The Paper Chase, and he remembered his role on Gilmore Girls very well and with kindness (Kelly Bishop, who was his wife on the show offered bedside condolences from the cast for him before his death), which brought him a beloved fanbase young and old, and even if you didn't like it, it remains the series I love the most.

Stop being a grump about every thread mvcg66b3r starts; they're doing nothing wrong besides noting a role they're most popular for.
 
Some other notable Herrmann TV roles:
In "MASH", he played a doctor new to the 4077th who had a nervous breakdown
"The Electric Grandmother", which aired on NBC's "Project Peacock" (a short lived series of high quality children's specials) in the early 80s. It's about a man, who seeing how much his kids miss their grandmother after her death, decides to get them a human looking robot as a replacement.
Scads of History Channel documentaries as a narrator, in the pre-aliens/pawn shop days of that channel.
 
This is sad news. "Gilmore Girls" was one of my favorite shows.

I still communicate online with some fo the fans, though not really about the show.

And from the commercial I saw today, it looks like Lorelai will lose yet another TV dad.
