Northern stations virtually absent on AM tonight here in Florida

Since it's getting cold here tonight, I wanted to listen to some of the stations that usually come in from New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, to hear their weather forecasts so it doesn't feel so cold here but I can't hear anything.

On 880, it's all Cuba. Just a very faint trace of WCBS way in the background.

890 is all Cuba.

770 is all Cuba.

1210 is all Cuba.

On 780 which is always an easily listenable WBBM, there's nothing. Not even a trace of WBBM. Just static from the usual annoying electrical interference. First time I've ever heard it like that.

No WGN on 720 either. Just something very weak mixing with the static that I can't identify.

But the one that really took me by surprise is what I heard (or I should say didn't hear) on 870.

Not a trace of WWL! Which is by far our strongest nighttime powerhouse. All I get is Radio Reloj when I turn the receiver to the south and WGUL splatter when I turn it in the direction of New Orleans. First time hearing something like this here on 870.

I wonder what those up north are hearing.

Quick listen just now.

WBBM was missing. WLS WSCR and WLS were weak.

With CKLW severely weakened, hoped I'd hear Bonaire on 800, but it wasn't pushing through.

Out early tomorrow, so can't listen anymore.

2 new logs tonight! Both Mexico. From Yakima, WA:

910 - XEAO Mexicali, BCN; good signal with commercials in SS, one mentioning the Walmart store in Mexicali at 1833 PT 1/7/15. NEW #678, 250W, 1002 miles! For 250 watts, it really boomed in. Little 500W XEABCA 820 was also in at the same time.

1160 - XEQIN San Quintin, BCN; fair to good with sign off in Spanish and Mexican National Anthem. XEQIN operates from around 5AM-7:15PM each day (very short hours for a full powered non-daytimer station). NEW #679, 10KW, 1136 miles. Very impressive signal at times, KSL was absent for some of the time, and by the time it signed off, KSL was dominant but XEQIN was in the null.

I'm in Atlanta tonight and tomorrow night on my way to St. Pete Beach. I did the Chattanooga to Atlanta leg of the drive between 5-7pm EST. Chicago blowtorches all accounted for, although WSCR eventually got completely trashed by Cuba. Even WMVP was present. WBBM, WGN, and WLS were all alone. WBBM, the strongest as usual.
I also heard WFAN, WABC, and WCBS...all with fair signals. CJBC also present. WLW, WJR, and WTAM all blasting. This was just a quickie scan, and I'm not sure how well, if at all, this held up as the evening went on.

I've had several nights recently where Chicago stations have been far weaker than usual here around Columbus, Ohio. When WMVP isn't even coming in, you know something is up.
The past few nights haven't been a problem, especially last night.

I'd expect WMVP to be the strongest Chicago station at night in Central Ohio.

Yes sir, almost without fail. WGN usually second strongest, followed with WBBM and WLS in interchangeable order, and then WSCR.
I hope I will not have trouble listening to Cubs games over the air this coming season. :) Sure, there's MLB Gameday Audio, but it's not the same, especially at night.

Cubs will be on WBBM this year. Shouldn't be any problem hearing them in Central Ohio.
