Fall Book

Of course the WBEN Talking Pin Heads will blame all Democrats for the handling
of the storm and the storm itself.
Denying Climate Change is like denying that the Earth orbits the Sun.
Right Wing lunatics live in their own warped fantasyland...

Excellent.

I'm sure those two will be talking about snow tomorrow, like all political talk show hosts do, right?

And during the final hour of Beach, they will be reviewing movies, because that's what the right wing does, right?

That's what I thought.

All because B&B cover local UNAVOIDABLE issues like weather, doesn't mean their shows aren't politically oriented. They ARE. They regularly pander to wingnuts, just like much of their syndie programming.

And for some reason you keep bringing up "Cinema Bob", as if that ONE single hour per week offsets the other 167.

We're talking about a station, including it's morning NEWS show, that was openly shilling for Carl Paladino when he was running....also a "news" station that sponsored a gun rally in Albany. They have as much integrity as you on this subject...lol.

Unreal.

LOL You guys crack me up. They're doing what they're paid to do...entertain the listeners. Sandy has made me smile for almost 40 yrs! Boys get your own sandbox if you don't like playing in this one...there's lots of them out there.

Although Tommy B can be quite entertaining when he's plagued by paranoia. You won't hear that kind of compelling talk on WBFO.

NPR has plenty of "compelling" content. Reasonable thoughtful discourse takes
place on many of their shows.

WBEN is for those who prefer poisonous crazy talk with idiot
callers who say "youse guys" and can't speak coherent English...

Typical Corporate spin. The station has a 1.2. Even if ALL of their listeners are
Between 18-25, they have very few of them.
Spin the math all you want, but Alt. Buffalo is tied with 1300 AM.
How can corporate be overjoyed with that?

They also thought WBEN would succeed on FM.
We know how that ended in dismal failure...

Care to be a bit more specific? It's easy to accuse someone of "spin." A lot harder to come up with data that supports your view.

You can refer to the earlier thread that quoted demographic data. In that thread, I showed you how it's possible for a station with a narrow target, like this one, can get a 3 or 4 share in their target, and it become a 1 share when the other ages are added. Stations don't sell the 6+ numbers. So unless you have something factual to say, stick to what you know.

You're speculating as well. By that rationale, a station could have a Zero
share 12+ and a 10 share in the deceased demo.

If Sales can sell it, so be it. I find it hard to believe that their investment is
getting the results they expected.
Time will tell...

You're speculating as well.

Not really. They've stuck with the format for over a year. They're operating with a full local staff. No one's been fired. If you were right, changes would have been made by now.

And as you say, if they're able to sell it, it really doesn't matter what the ratings are.

Unlike many other operators, Entercom seems to give new formats a format a chance to bloom. This was the case with "WBEN on FM" (which was an epic fail) and in all likelihood, it will be the case with Alt 107.7, which IMHO, will be given at least four more books to blossom. A 3 or 4 share in-demo (e.g., 18-34 Men) isn't going to suffice, especially when the top five in-demo stations are pulling double digits or high single digits. I concur that sales/revenue are the drivers. This has always been the case, witness WBEN, which continues to perform well despite its listeners being predominantly 55+. But if local businesses don't "buy" Alt 107.7 over the long haul (renewals being critical with a format like this and a market like Buffalo), it's likely those in control will choose to delete Alt 107.7.

It's possible that they look at Alt 107.7 as a flanker to WEDG, and hope to keep Shredd and Ragan's numbers from impacting the Entercom morning shows in the money demos. And, yeah, I realize that's a stretch, but it's no more far-flung than some other things uttered by local management.

Wonder if it's possible to run Bills games on 107. It would put the games back on FM, as 97 did when they had the contract. The deal might be specific to GR. And sure it would cannibalize the franchise. But if not, why not?

If it brought in money, Entercom would run Bills games on all of its FMs.
The Bills would welcome the extra coverage.
Franchise hasn't made the playoffs in 15 years, yet it rakes in huge profits.
The joke is on the suckers who buy tickets...

It would cannibalize the AM, which is exactly why Entercom won't simulcast the Bills on FM (other than on WKSE HD2 --- for the eight people who have HD radios.) Bills games are like steroids for WGR's cume and TSL.

Well, there are three radio groups, with at least a chief engineer at each place, and three HD monitors in the rack. I'm sure at least two of them have an HD radio in the lunchroom...

I'm still having trouble getting to 8 people who have HD radios.

You mentioned a possible THREE...and they don't even technically OWN them.

Let me lay out the math for you:

Three chiefs - with HD radios in their offices/cars

Three HD monitors in the racks for studio feeds and air monitors

Two in lunch rooms

Sounds like eight to me. And that's without counting two or three geeks from this board who've sprung for a Sangean portable, and those who got HD radio as part of their car package. In truth, there could be dozen(s) of people tuning in HD on any given day.
