Who got an 18.5 Share last night?

Ohio State's victory in the first championship game of the College Football Playoff produced ESPN's highest overnight rating ever.

The network said Tuesday that according to Nielsen the Buckeyes' 42-20 win over Oregon generated an 18.5 overnight rating.

What was the highest rating ever?

I wonder if that 18.5 was for the whole game or just the highest peak. I turned it off in the 3rd quarter because it was one of the worst games I have seen this year - sort of like the average Stupid Bowl.

Those are words that will get you banned... just sayin'... [sorry, my sarcasm needs an outlet : ) ]

What?!?!?!? Should I have said *cough* The Big Game *cough*? :)

I think he means you referring to the game last night as one of the worst you have ever seen. Our friendly board General Manager is an Ohio state fan and he if I'm not mistaken lived in Ohio for a while before he finally ended up in Connecticut and then the Montreal area.

ahem.. Ohio is my home State. I forgot to add this to the TOS: Thou shalt not mock or ridicule Ohio State Buckeyes Football in any fashion. ; )

My mom was from Ohio. She went to Ohio State. My dad was from Michigan.
Each year, the Ohio State/University of Michigan game created quite a bit of tension in our home.
As for me .... I just stayed away for the day.

Oh, your dad didn't employ the "would you rather be happy" mantra?

18.5 was the average, with the peak 20.5 rating in the 9:30 to 9:45 quarter hour.

Ah.....NOW I understand. Even if you are a Buckeye fan you have to admit the Ducks didn't bring their typical game. Boz should be paying more attention to Les Habs anyway now that he lives with them. I'd kill for a ticket to the Forum (new or old).

I hat....I mean, really dislike Ohio (the school, the state is a wonderful place).

That said, I was glad they both won and did so convincingly. It gets the Monkey off the back of the Big 10. Oregon created their own problems. Considering the margin was 22 points, even if they had ther top game, I don't think they would've won.

Tonight the Habs play the Blue Jackets in Columbus... this is one where I get to enjoy watching the game (but the channels might require an additional subscription) and be happy no matter who wins. : )

Not to take this in an inappropriate direction but...

The Big Ten has almost always been a two-team conference. That isn't taking anything away from OSU this year as they put together a really good team but it doesn't say anything particularly nice about the Big Ten as they continue to be a very lopsided conference. In Oregon's case it proves you can't lose your two top receivers and still maintain an effective offense - especially if your run game is taken away by the other team. In this case though it appears OSU was the better prepared team and it showed.

And I heard this somewhere but was reminded by Vanessa Baxter of "Last Man Standing", not WBTV Charlotte. It must always be called The Ohio State University.

I began noticing this about five years ago but never understood why. Is there something about competition in Ohio with university names that another university was encroaching on OSU's brand? I think there is an "Ohio University" and "Miami of Ohio" - are these the troublemakers?

Take away the OSU turnovers and the final margin would have been even worse :O

Sorry Ducks you have (had?) a great offense but "D" still wins championships ;)

"The" has actually been part of the name since it was adopted in 1878, as opposed to, say, Louisiana State University, which doesn't include a "The."

But even on OSU's site, "Ohio State" is used on second reference. I guess you're supposed to use "the" if you also use "university." (The website, by the way, is osu.edu, not tosu.edu or theosu.edu.)

Florida State University also officially has a THE at the beginning, but apparently they're not such sticklers about it.

And if those numbers hold up when the final ratings come in next week, the Ohio State-Oregon National Championship game would become the most-watched and highest-rated program in cable TV history!!! 33 million viewers is pretty much the cable equivalent to 100 million.
