My opinion on mundofox

I think Fox should take full control over MUNDOFOX. FOX has enough great programing alone and should do away with RCN. Fox should translate top hit programs like HOUSE, GOTHAM, FAMILY GUY, SIMPSONS.

Those shows aren't Latin. You can't have a network geared towards Latins without Latin programming. FOX does produces some programming in latin America, like "Cumbia Ninja" and "Aliados" but those are series, not soaps. Also, RCN produces Mundofox's news programming, so it seems they're here to stay...

You forget that many U.S. TV series do not work with certain ethnic groups due to cultural differences.

Historically, very few U.S. comedy series have been successful when dubbed to Spanish and syndicated. Comedy depends a great deal on nuanced language issues and cultural attitudes and generally does not translate.

Some dramatic shows that are based on strictly American attitudes and experiences don't work either.

Anecdotally, I was not living on the mainland US when Seinfeld was a hit show. I have watched a few episodes, and am totally unable to find it amusing... it is culturally foreign to me. And that is why, translated and dubbed, it does not work in Latin America and would not work among Spanish dominant Hispanics in the US.

I couldn't agree more. I cannot stand it when family members from the US mainland try to explain the humor in a tv series or a motion picture to relatives from Puerto Rico. They will never get it.

Didn't you live in the US mainland prior to that time period?

Seinfeld was hilarious!

It's also the same backwards....watching some spanish shows where the characters are dressed in HORRIBLE costumes like bees, etc (HEY I know SNL used that for skits in the 70s...but it was not the whole show or series!) makes me appreciate even the dumbest American done comedies-sometimes.....(The women are nice to look at though ;) )

BTW I was never a big fan of Seinfeld....or Frazier in their 1st run......I watch Frazier in reruns IF nothing else is on...but still don't watch Seinfeld.....and even shows like King of Queens or some others just don't do it for me...(Leah Remini was the only thing decent in King of Queens and then she started putting weight on..however, the whole show premise was a "modern" version of the Flintstones...where a fat overweight guy is married to a thin sexy woman....same thing with Family Guy and they often satire themselves on that ;) )

You're not alone. That kind of shows seen on Hispanic TV shows would also be despised by many Spanish-language countries, like Spain, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, etc. whose viewing habits are different. For instance, while Hispanic TV primetime is dominated by soap operas, stations in those countries show a mix of soaps, American-style dramas, chat shows, etc.

Reminded me of the Family Guy episode of Fred Flintstone running from the cops in a high speed chase, with Sheriff John Bunnell giving the play by play while the chase was ongoing.

"Running from the police and placing a young child on the roof of your vehicle while being pursued? In the town of Bedrock, that's a Yabba dabba don't!"

Thanks man, I've been needing a good laugh. CW 4ever!

Family Guy Flintstones Cop Chase!

MundoFox would be better if they encouraged more stations to develop local news. They could build their local news brand in offering newscasts at times other than 6/11.

The other problem seems to be technical. Whenever I watch KEJR here in Phoenix everything seems to be at a weird framerate, like their delivery method is unusual. And I mean EVERYTHING over the network.

Yup, they have the oddball 'filmized' effect that drove people nuts in the 2000's when it was used on MTV for special events and the ABC cuts of Disney sitcoms; it's even that way on their promotions, and I've never seen a minute of MundoFox. I don't understand why it needs any use at all, considering that western South America used the NTSC format and uses ATSC like the States; there should be no need for having to reprocess like the PAL and SECAM/DVT countries, unless it's a cynical way to try to make Univision and Telemundo's soaps 'look bad'.

It's not even a standards problem in the era of digital video. There are no standards problems (except when you send things out for broadcast; go south of Mexico and ATSC is almost nonexistent, with ISDB-T dominant in Latin America and Colombia going DVB-T). It's a horrible look.

I was saying this because in Mexico they have many American shows in Spanish like THE SIMPSONS, LAW AND ORDER, NCIS, ALOT OF NICK SHOWS

Yes, but those shows are on the lowest rated of the Televisa networks.

Action/cop/procedural series, such as NCIS, Law and Order and others do well world wide. At one time, The A-Team was the #1 non-domestic show in every country of Latin America, beating the prime time soaps in some cases.

Good guys beat bad guys shows in general do well everywhere. They are easy to follow. And pretty easy to translate. Most American comedy shows are hard to translate to another language, and the situations don't translate at all sometimes.

I'm trying to imagine some mother in Brazil trying to relate to Family Guy ... can't see it at all with all the references to American culture.

Yeah, I watch some of MundoFox here on channel 721 here in Milton, and I'm really surprised! The Boston MundoFox channel doesn't have much local advertisements.
