KXOT sold

Oh fantastic. I recall listening to the old classic rock format when I was a kid (KBTC 91.7, not to mention the KTPS years that came before). Bates had a really cool thing going back then. You've gotta do what you've gotta do I suppose...

Yep - another waste of channel. Obviously BBN is taking it because KWFJ only goes so far on 89.7.
Enjoyed the TVW simulcast...why didn't they just buy it completely? Good place to hear what's going on in Washington politics without even tuning on the television.

I noticed the station is off the air. PRC must have shut it down when they announced the sale.

Ahh...The future of non-com radio. Endless religious music and blabber everywhere.

I always thought WSU would pick up KXOT eventually for their news channel (KVTI is their classical feed.) Guess not....

I listened to this "BBN" for a few annoying minutes at the top of the hour and it sounds like a nearly perfect carbon copy of "Family Radio". Typical church lady stuff. Just add senile founder and wacky prediction and history will repeat itself.

I consider myself to be fairly religious, and I would rather chop off a limb before touching BBN with a ten-foot pole.

I'd actually hoped that WSU would've bought KXOT. I find KUOW's approach to be rather boring. When I'm east of the Cascades, I like to tune in NWPR's news service. I like the idea of a state wide network with a NW perspective.

I'm not really an NPR kind of guy, but I think KXOT is far too valuable to be underused. I'm not an engineer, but I think KEXP would sound much better if they moved to 91.7. The current 90.3 frequency for KEXP leaves a lot to be desired.

Too many NPR shows are aired on other stations, so WSU would have not likely taken the NWPR News route. "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" is an example...airs at 11AM Sat/3PM Sun on the NWPR news network, but also airs on KUOW AND KPLU at various times on the weekend. Seattle loves Peter Sagal and Bill Kurtis it seems! They also simulcast Morning Edition from the Classical/NPR NWPR stations. Why would we need 4 stations (and some translators) airing Morning Edition at the same time?

Agreed. Capitol Hill is just about the WORST place EVER to put any kind of transmitter. Once you're out of the Seattle city limits, the signals start to break up really badly. No matter what power level, FM or TV.

Agreed. TV wise, the Queen Anne stations seem pretty strong, but its hard to get any sign of life from Capitol Hill. I would have thought that KEXP would have tried to buy 91.7 if they just sunk of that money into their new broadcast house. Having a "state of the art" facility is great, but its not worth the price if your signal is so poor. Of course, they probably have more internet listeners than terrestrial listeners.

I was in the classroom at Bates visiting Willie Kelly when KBTC-FM had their last moments. Me and another former classmate from the broadcasting program were there when he signed-off the station. We gave him a round of applause for a great station afterwards.
