Two More SA Translators Sign On

K277CX 103.3, now rebroadcasting KJXK with adult hits.
K296GK 107.1, now rebroadcasting KTSA with news talk.

I assume 103.3 will flip to something new when KJXK gets it's HD signals up and running. It doesn't make sense to rebroadcast Jack like that from the same area.

107.1 sounded good, about as strong as 94.5, to me.
103.3, not as powerful and the audio really didn't sound too good (too much high end). Almost as powerful as the other two IIRC.

Both signals are off now. I expect they were testing.

103.3 The App "San Antonio's Alternative"

103.3 The App is San Antonio’s Alternative! Hear and interact with the artists and songs that you love! With the latest 103.3 The App radio app, you can connect with us like never before.

I see your info source too, SARadio1. ;)

A check of KTFM and KJXK from my Northwest SA location yields that neither station is broadcasting in HD. Could just be me and my distance from the transmitters. I do not have an AM HD receiver.

Here's what I think. It could be Alpha's current lack of an HD primary station that's delaying 103-3's sign on with it's new format - alternative? It'll be interesting to see what happens and how it all plays out. Here's hoping to finally get some good new rock for San Antonio

Google play has the app available for 103.3 The App. Last night, they were airing music from Weezer, Foo Fighters, Muse, Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons, The Killers and others.

103.3 the app

I am out of state. Listening now like the music so far. Hope everone will give it a try

Congratulations San Antonio, you've finally got your Alternative station. If this thing takes off, and I bet you it doesn't stay on K277CX very long. Looking forward to hearing OTA this weekend. Is there a coverage map available for K277CX? Locator hasn't updated yet, of course.

I think that Alpha plans to have KTSA as the primary station for 107.1 once it's up and running, so I would imagine KTSA's FM is permanent-especially since it would give them an edge over WOAI and other news talk stations.

A few minutes ago I checked the dial again. Both 103.3 and 107.1 were off the air-I expect they're working some things out or having problems. Since it launched today, 103.3 at least is probably top priority to be fixed.

K277CX I believe will be based off of KTFM HD2-that's the one with the HD on anyway. KTFM HD2 was simulcasting not The App but 102.7 Jack FM a few minutes ago. The HD signal actually had much cleaner audio than 102.7 has ever had.

In short, lots of stuff I'm sure they're working on. When it all settles down though I expect 103.3 will be The App and 107.1 will be KTSA. Not to mention 94.5 which is still ESPN Radio.

This page doesn't have a "coverage map" of K277CX but it does have the "antenna pattern". That probably does not help you since it is not a "map overlay" but here is the link to it:

Thanks flying. Located in Hemisfair Park, so that's good for me. I'll get a superb signal from K277CX at my SA location, much the same as KZEP's (K227BH's) signal strength.

Wonder if this'll bring about changes to the almighty KISS? Imagine if 99-5 gets its tail whipped by a translator. Knowing Cox's reputation, wholesale changes are coming to 99-5 to combat this recent development.

I expect it will come in well over there, Purple. The signal's about the same as KZEP's translator over here past the Medical Center... The 103-3 translator though has been off since yesterday evening. Their Twitter says they are having minor technical issues. But since it just disappeared from the dial like that (especially since KTFM HD is off now) leads me to believe the issues are more serious. I'll keep it in my presets hoping that it returns soon.

One thing that strikes me as ironic... The station promotes the app heavily and tells listeners to use it... But the quality of the only Internet stream (the one the app uses) is about as low as it could go... Why only 20 KBPS? I would think that with the improving speeds and increasing availability of 4G cell Internet they would raise up the stream quality.

You're probably right about KISS, I expect they will go newer with their music soon. Heck, maybe they will just flip to Alt rock.

103.3/103.1

I wonder if the long silent 103.1 Karnes City signal may return to the air as a partner to 103.3 The App? It seems it could be a compliment to 103.3 coverage to the North and East.
