New LP (KPPC-LP) 96.9, SA

Any news?

Has anyone heard anything about this station and whether or not it will start broadcasting soon?
 
I got a report earlier that a dead carrier on 96.9 has been turned on on the Northeast side of San Antonio, but can't tune it in over here.
Is KPPC testing? Can't find this station on the Internet. I'll update when I can pick it up.

Also, where is the proposed antenna located?
 
Operational!

The dead carrier is now playing oldies and soft classic rock with a legal ID every hour.
Kinda sounds a little older than KMFR used to sound, if y'all remember that.
 
I can confirm a dead carrier on 96-9 from S. Flores and I-10. Not the best signal, but definitely there.
 
Antenna location is off of Binz-Engleman and N. Foster, across from the Wal-Mart, if the coordinates are correct.

You beat me to it. I already had this information typed but not posted.

The antenna should be located here:

29° 27' 55.80" N Latitude
98° 21' 36.90" W Longitude

When I input the following string into Google Maps:

29° 27' 55.80" N 98° 21' 36.90" W

it put it on North Foster Road about half-way between Summer Fest Drive and Binz-Engleman Road.

Using Google Street View, the building at that location is:

San Antonio, TX

Yes, there is a Walmart directly across the street (across North Foster Road) from Alamo United Methodist Church on Google Maps.
 
Oldies are back.

I expect more dead air at times while the testing's completed.
 
Different call

Which call is it? KPPC or KXTJ FM? The one I'm receiving is transmitting a MONO signal and not a STERIO signal.

It is id'ing as KPPC FM. Guess that is the one that you all are reporting at the corner of Foster Rd. and FM 78 near Kirby.

Do they need help?

That is correct, TexasSteven. KPPC is the signal at 96-9, currently without a stereo pilot. I was unable to pick up KXTJ from the southside, even before KPPC signed on.
 
Steven, yeah KPPC is the one you're hearing, not KXTJ. KXTJ is in the process of seeking a new and higher tower site, should hopefully be back up and running soon.

I know that KPPC is testing, and their launch date is February 17th. I don't know if they will keep oldies or flip to religious programming on their launch date, they're broadcasting from a church... When that happens I think KXTJ should take over the format. That's just my opinion though.
 
KPPC has added some liners. Just general stuff like "Old time rock and roll, KPPC". They've even got funny ones, I heard one that went something like "Your grandpa's radio station, we're KPPC".

They've started broadcasting short inspirational Christian messages on the hour every hour, followed by one Christian song.
The rest of the programming is oldies and classic rock type stuff. My guess is they will keep the format, and they've got a message on their website to listen on February 17th at 06:50 PM. http://www.alamoumc.com.

Pretty broad mix of music. I've heard stuff from Steppenwolf and Fleetwood Mac to Diana Ross and Dion & The Belmonts. Much of this music you don't usually hear on the radio anymore. Still was popular back in it's time though.

In short, real classic hits music. This is better than KONO if you ask me. Y'all in Houston must be jealous. LOL I'll work on an aircheck soon, and I really wish they would start streaming online.

KPPC now has a website. Still hoping for a stream though. KPPCSA.com

As for that Steve Miller track, I'm sure it's fine. I've heard worse on other radio stations.
