Who else here watched the SNL: 40 special on NBC Sunday night? I felt much of the first half of the show was better than the second half.

Who the f--- allowed Kanye West to be part of this? At least Mike Meyers ripped on him during the "Wayne's World" sketch!

All the hype about Eddie Murphy appearing for the first time in 30-some years seemed to get cut short so Miley Cyrus could sing. Who the f--- allowed her on there? Sheesh!

The segment for those who passed on was nice, but an entire piece for Don Pardo would've been MUCH better.

Betty White saved an otherwise dreadful "The Californians" sketch. OK...what's your opinion?
 
Watched about 5 or so secs of the opening...cannot stomach much more of Fallon than that....McCartney really was thin in his voice and his mic needed better adjustment...but he needs to retire....geesh he is over 70 now...its not the same...

Chevy Chase's appearance was a shocker..in the lack of audience reaction.....just minor clapping...SHAME!!!

Yeah, Eddie's limited then cut away was another poor thorn....and Miley Cyrus doing a Paul Simon top40 song from the 70s? (50 Ways to leave your lover)???? I finally gagged and barfed on that...

Spent more time watching Family Guy on FOX and Adult Swim on Cartoon Network than I did the SNL special...it was just AWFUL overall...I would have expected a better "tribute" to those passed than whatever they did...and trying get "Chris Farley" channeled was a total loss...He and others are gone....do NOT trash them by trying to imitate them....I would have been much happier with a show full of old clips instead of the mess they showed..

The ONLY GOOD thing (besides the end of it) was the Wayne's World skit...it was pretty much spot on...and yes Kanye should have been NOT there....SMH

Overall, a 5....wait that may be too good of a score...maybe a negative 5!!
 
I believe Kanye was there specifically for comic relief. He was there to be made fun of. And they did, and it was spot on. Too bad Brian Williams wasn't there too, since he was mentioned several times. I thought it was incredible that they got pretty much all living cast members there, the red carpet was a good idea. Amazing all star audience. The cameos were cool. Anyone recognize Taylor Swift? Nice touch with "Still Crazy" at the end. It was a chill bump moment for me.

He also performed. That was the main attraction for him.

But I'm sure his wife has hammered him about that Grammy outburst, and that he needs to develop a sense of humor. This was the perfect outlet for that.

It's interesting to read the Twitter comments today. Young people love Miley and the young stars. Old folks hated them.

There is grudging respect (and some actual praise) for Miley on the Facebook page for the SiriusXM channel The Loft, which plays an eclectic mix of old and new music targeted at boomers and early Gen X's. Most of the positive comments focus on her song choice (a 40-year-old Paul Simon tune -- way to hit the demographic bull's eye, Miley!) and the fact that she can apparently sing well live, unaided by AutoTune, a backing track, or other vocal enhancement techniques, and didn't turn the song into a display of vocal pyrotechnics or choreograph a twerking routine while singing. The negative commenters still hold her parentage against her (more than a little Billy Ray snark) or disapprove of all current pop and pop artists -- the phenomenon that JeffM has labeled "dad-ism."

I tuned out after "Weekend Update". I only found one of the new sketches funny (Celebrity Jeopardy!), and some of the old clips were nice to watch. The opening number with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake was ... weird. A lot of the bits felt like they were bringing people on stage just to say they were in the show.
 
I thought most of the show was okay at best, and certainly the stand-out skits to me were "Celebrity Jeopardy!", the sing-a-long with Martin Short and Maya Rudolph as Beyonce, and "Wayne's World". That "Californians" skit, however, was terrible, although the only saving grace was Betty White, and maybe David Spade and Cecily Strong at end.

Musical performances: Sir Paul definitely sounded off of his game, and Kanye was Kanye. Paul Simon with the SNL Band was good, however.

I'm glad they let Dan re enact the bass master sketch. but as I watched that and heard the audience reaction, I wonder how many of the young audience was seeing that for the first time?

yeah, Miley cirus and Kanye West should not have been allowed on, and Mellisa Mccarthy and that football guy (what was he doing there?) should have not been allowed on the same stage as Steve Martin.

There were a couple of football guys. Both had hosted the show before. I wonder how many people watched the 40th who haven't watched the weekly show in ten years or more.

As a kid, the first time I heard Pardo's name was Art Fleming's opening:
